Check my Avatar for application.  The assembly is the Lucas L549.  The bulb base comes in single and double filament types.  You could use the double with one (used in rear of  early British cars) for a running light and the other for turn signal.  The lenses are glass (although there are plastic reproductions).  The chrome trim ring is great quality chrome.  The chrome ring is required to hold the lens in.  I used a clear  glass lens with an amber incandescent bulb.  I made an extra back rubber base about the thickness of the horn grill so the light isn't scrunched by the horn grill.

These were used on the AH bugeye, TR2-3, AH 3000.  Moss motors has all the parts - they are also on ebay but watch for replicas which may have plastic lenses and flatter lenses.

Jeff;  Nice to finally meet you, your wife and mellow pup!

Do you currently have the CMC front directional base, or are you trying to upgrade to something else?   (Or do you have no base at all?).

The CMC base is a Signal Stat part, mostly used on trucks, but I haven't found a P/N in a quick search yet.  That base fits the original (glass or plastic) 356 lamp lens and is the same OD as the 356 part so it fits the shape of the horn grill to a T.

If you have the shallow white lens you may have to use a 1/8" spacer gasket to move the lens out to clear the bulb, but the trim collar will still fit.

As an aside, I have attached a PDF with all of the dimensions for locating your steering column properly.  They came from measurements taken on Pearl, along with input from Al Merklin.

Ahhhhhhhh, the Lucas L549.

I'm stuck with about 20 of them, complete units and all I want is the beehive style.

The indicators on the front of the speedsters that you lot have, don't they use the beehive units as well?

You can't see it here that well, but there is about a 10mm size difference between the LUCAS units and the Porsche beehive.

The front is a beehive unit but not as Madonna-ish  (i.e. flatter lenses) .  LUCAS does make flatter lenses (L488).  The LUCAS unit is the proper size for the front turn signal but as you pointed out a littler smaller than the OEM 356 rear bee hives.  There was a L489 used on Land Rovers too (not sure the size). What's nice about the 498 is the OEM glass lenses (repro may be plastic) and the fact that you can get clear, amber and red ones - I've heard white or frosted but have not seen them.
