Well, maybe it's not the seats that is the problem. My speedster seats have carried us close to 10,000 miles so far, with never a complaint from either one of us.
Beautiful car....a bit like mine....your seats look a bit MORE CUSHIONY.....but I have an old BUTT! GREAT COLORS.

This sounds great to me, as long as it is not the last weekend (July 29th) as we are on vacation. @Stan Galat this is perfect "Whatever we do, lets just keep it informal and focus on driving and stopping at low-key bar-food joints."
Ok gentlemen; it sounds like we will pencil in Saturday July 22nd.
We will meet at the main Lodge parking lot of Starved Rock State park at 8:30 am!
Lots of fun roads and sites to see along the Illinois and Fox rivers 
Keep your fingers crossed for good weather.
I will select a good bar and grille for lunch, one that can seat us easily and has good selections etc.

Let me amend that. I wish I lived in Peoria when a gathering of SOCer's was occuring, which, based on good driving weather, eliminates the period between mid October until around May.
Hoist one for me at lunch guys, I'll be thinking of you!
Besides, it's too hot to drive my car in mid summer in the Florida panhandle. My driving season is kind of reversed from Illinois'.

Nope- it's already done. We're from the Midwest. It's a plan, we'll stick with it and won't need a bunch of hoo-haw to pull it off. We'll all be there, tuned up, buffed out, and ready to rock (even if it means no sleep the night before).
I'm looking forward to meeting the new guys, gawking at the new cars, and enjoying a fun day away from the grind.

I'd tell you to fly up, but since the nearest decent sized airport for either of us is several hours away, you could probably drive faster. Jump In that tub and roll it up here, buddy! I'll leave the light on for you.
Didn't have time to read the thread in its entirety, but I'm interested in going to the July 22 starved rock gathering. I don't have a Speedster but rather a Beck 550 Spyder. Joe told me about this run and if you didn't mind I would love to join.

Chris, Sandy has a sensitive stomach so cant do just greasy spoon place. Does not have to be fancy but somewhere that has a decent salad or some grilled chicken etc..
Tom from Michigan, you are welcome too. Only one extra bedroom so you gotta shack up with the cheese-head or crash on the daybed in the basement. My basement is like 1,300 Sq. ft. fully furnished. If you guys come in we cant meet the little WOP in Geneva for some dinner the night before the cruise.
Ok Marty: we will ease the meet up time to 9:00 am... it sounds like some people will be driving a distance so this is a good idea. 9 Am folks!
All vehicles are welcome for the drive! Especially a spyder! I don't think I have ever examined one up close
I haven't completely decided on the best location for lunch yet.. but there are lots of good choices and chicken and salads will be on the menu.
I mentioned an "optional" dinner... this will be at a joint called "Boon dockers" it is located on the illinois river in the town of Seneca Il. The restaurant has alot of porch style setting and lots of parking... sandwichs and full dinner specials.
They also have a separate outdoor bar that has live bands on the weekends. Super fun place!
-If you have time to stay for dinner.

Let's see, if I left Florida tomorrow and stopped every few miles........and I wore my custom driving shoes and driving gloves, bought a new Snoopy type silk scarf somewhere and got some prescription WW1 goggles and a leather pilots hat, I could be just like my uncle Marty........ almost.

Seriously, nice to see you mid-west/central guys are organizing a gathering. Can you find some hills out there for fun driving?
Bob, the best roads in Illinois are west towards Iowa. For most folks that would require an overnight. I did it last year with a local group. Lots of long sweepers where you can pick up quite a bit of speed.

To keep it real, Galena and the surrounding area have some nice roads... for Illinois.
Where we are going has roads that are decent, and which afford the important advantage of being close by for in-state people to make a day-trip of it. You all know me-- I just wanna' drive. But nobody's ever going to mistake Starved Rock or Galena or anywhere else nearby for the tail of the dragon.
I'm jacked up about this because I haven't seen any of you guys since Corn Daze Deux, and that's been way-the-heck too long. I could be dead-wrong, but hold this thing the Galena, and I'd bet half the guys coming to this one won't make the drive.
If I wanted to drive for the sake of it, I'd fill the passenger's seat with beef jerky and water, turn on the Valentine 1, forward the calls to my employee's phone, point the car west, and drop the hammer.
What I'd love to see is a third giant SOC get-together somewhere in the mid-south in the fall (late Sept.- early Oct.)-- TN or KY, or even eastern NC. Someplace with mountain roads and a log lodge. We wouldn't get the NE guys (most likely, but we'd pull a lot of guys for whom Carlisle is never going to work (me, for example). It'd be small to start, but most of putting an event together is just picking a date, and sticking with it. One of Terry Nuckel's "Tour de Hoe" events drew.... Terry, driving his car around Lake Tahoe. It's becoming a big event now.
I'm not sure how to make this happen, but I really wish it would. There are so many guys I'd like to meet, and roads I'd like to drive, that combining the two of them would be pretty fantastic.
I agree Stan, Lane has tried a few times to continue the Tennessee North Carolina gathering but couldn't get enough traction. Hopefully we can rekindle that. Otherwise, I think something in Wisconsin would be good too. One of my local car club favorites is the Osthoff resort in Elkhart Lake and Road America. My first choice though, would be mid-south.
Heck, even I could make a mid-south event. I'll even drag Wolfgang along (although I don't think he would take much convincing).
I know the Dragon gets poo pood, and rightly so. Its a novelty. A fun one but very crowded with cops everywhere. But that area in the smokies has so much more to offer. Cherohala skyway, the Ocoee, Moonshiner 28. A different drive every day. Pretty good restaurants and accommodations. Its a great trip. In VA very close to me are some roads near Marion VA called the Back of the Dragon. Pretty stupendous. Marion is a great little town with a beautiful old hotel called the General Francis. Great restaurant across the street from the hotel called Macadoos. Cheap sandwiches and beer. Can't wait to get my spyder. Roads around Norfolk, VA are the worst. I'll be keeping the spyder in the mountains in Charlottesville, VA. Only problem will be is I can't look at it every day.

I did a yearly trip to the Smokies 4 years in a row on bikes until my accident in 2013 coming off the Cherohala. I kind of miss it.
The key is to pick a date, stick with it, and not cancel no matter how many people pull out. People hate uncertainty, and when things bounce around (yes/no, in/out), it creates enough uncertainty that nobody wants to ask for time off and make arrangements to come.
The Smokies/Ozarks are one of my favorite places in the world. We really need to get this done.

... and I'd love to meet you, Jack. So, who's gonna organize this? Sept./Oct. after all the kids are back in school, vacation season is over, rates are better, and the weather is perfect.
Doesn't somebody here live near Knoxville, TN/Ashville, NC? Cherohala Skyway Is 9.5 hrs from my front door, so I'm no help-- but I'm 90% sure we'd be in.
I'm certainly willing to participate in something like what Stan suggested and I'd be happy to help with the planning. I strongly recommend somewhere along the TN/NC border. I grew up on the mid-south (Memphis area) and can attest that there is no comparison between that and the mountains. My group of track friends (fiends?) did a wonderful event last fall that involved both the Tail of the Dragon and the Rattler. We all enjoyed the latter far more. I can make recommendations on several things.
Oh Stan, I'm 4 hours from Asheville and go there several times a year as Pam's mother lives there. I know the area reasonably well. PM me for contact info and we can make this happen.
Two weeks ago I drove from Leland NC to Elkins WV I took Rt 64w to Rt 250n that runs from VA crossing into to WV ....I lost count at over 200 (Yes 200 )switchbacks some that required be slowing the BMW to 10 mph ...what a road that was and NO Cops. Do a map search Staunton Va to Elkins WV ...enlarge the route map, you won't believe that road.

I live 30 miles South West of that place in the small town of Brevard. I usually don't go into "the city", but there are many places of interest there. My life usually keeps me in around Transylvania county, working at a bike shop, drinking beer at the many breweries, riding my bike in the forest or tooling around the back roads in my Spyder.
As we like to refer to as "living the dream".
