For those of you around the SF Bay Area, or nearby, I understand there is a vintage VW and Porsche car show at a park near my house in a few weeks.  Sunday, August 6, 2017 8am - 2:30pm at Dave Brubeck Park in Concord, CA

I met some great 356 Cabriolet and coupe owners at a local car show in Concord this week that were planning on attending and said I need to bring my speedster as well.

I had a rather refreshing conversation with these gentlemen. I never try to play my car off as anything but a replica or recreation. Their attitude was simply who cares. It's a speedster!  Their take was now that the "real" speedster prices are going through the roof, owners are less and less inclined to take them out. But the replica market keeps the passion and thrill of driving these cars alive. That, and since there are roughly 5x's more replicas out there than real Speedsters, it helps keeps parts somewhat affordable. Well those that are interchangeable.

Move attached photos of last week's small gathering of cars (approx 140 cars) that surrounded our town's square. One gentleman brought his amazing 1959 Porsche 356 Cabriolet out. I was in awe over his car. What took me back, was that he apparently he loved my replica.

Kevin (I think), there's a large and pretty active Porsche 356 group in northern Cal at this link.

They have four chapters - the one in the bay area has a breakfast meeting the first Saturday of the month in San Mateo (info on their site).

The Sacramento chapter that I'm familiar with is a pretty good group that will let you join and pay dues even if you don't own a gen-u-wine Porshee. Like any Porshee group, most are fine, upstanding citizens who don't care if your car rusts or gets gelcoat cracks.

Of course, like in any Porshee group, there are also a few who do care. You can choose to ignore them or to piss them off by parking right next to them at the meetings.

Life is really nothing more than an endless sequence of choices, right?

Today was a terrific gathering of classic Porsches and Volkswagens. Real 356 Speedsters, Cabriolets, and Convertible D's definitely outnumbered their replica counterparts.

It was also great finally meeting @Bob Hampton and his wonderful wife. It's nice putting faces to names on the forum.

There was a very nice 2013 white VS that parked next to mine, except it left before I could meet the owner.

I attached a few images, wish I actually paid more attention to snap a few more.

Kevin, the ivory car was me. Didn't see you around when we pulled up and kept checking back but never saw anyone around your car who looked like the owner - lots of admirers, though. Our plan was to stay for a bit, then hotfoot it back to Sacto before the heat set in. We had a great drive through the delta and were home by noon. Sorry I missed you.

I think our cars made a nice couple:

This was a great event. Bugs and Porshees as far as the eye could see:

Treffen02

I thought the idea of combining the two was brilliant. Besides insuring a huge turnout, it made sure this wouldn't turn into a snooty Porshee event. It felt more like a block party than a car show. The vibe, as we used to say in the latter half of the last century, was mellow:

@Sacto Mitch sorry I missed you. My wife stopped over with our 2.5 y/o son, so we brought him over to the children's playground for a bit.

This was the first time I checked out this event, which is sad, since it is just a few blocks from my house. I was surprised how many great cars and buses were present. I really enjoyed the intermingling of Porsches and VW's, and has a fun time chatting with so many. I'm hoping some of the conversations I had will sprout at least one new member; an owner of a seduction motor sports 356 coupe that is being wrapped up in the next few months. He had a number of questions that I told him were best suited to this forum.

Perhaps next year we can have a whole row of speedster replicas at the event?  There seems to be enough Speedsters in the Bay Area and near Central Valley to pull that off. Happy to see three SOC members were able to make it.

PS: great photo. Our cars look great together.
