It seems like simple task but I can't get my new electric oil pressure gauge to show anything. I took out my mechanical gauge and replaced it with a SW electrical unit and it has three connections on the back...ground , 12v switched input and sensor input. All done.

The sender unit gets screwed into the block so it is grounded. There are two prongs at the top and obviously one is the sensor/sender input to the gauge. I've applied 12 + to the other and reversed them, applied ground to each other and reversed them and no gauge action. The engine sounds normal but not seeing any pressure makes me nervous. Any ideas ? Thanks..

Do you have an SW part number for that sender?

I've looked at their installation instructions and it only shows one connection on the sending unit, unless you have one that drives both a gauge needle and an idiot light which would then have two terminals.

I've never worked with a sender that requires +12V applied to the sender.  The senders usually provide a resistance to ground or provide a grounded signal to the dash light.  I don't know what would happen if you apply +12V to either of the sender terminals, but, given how the sender provides a circuit to ground, I doubt that it would be good.

Thanks for that, Gordon. The sender is not a SW part. I bought just a SW gauge thinking one of my 3 assorted single pole senders would do the job. So, the likely scenario would be just a single pole sender up to gauge as shown above.  My knowledge of electricity is very limited.

I just put an ohm meter on the three single pole senders on hand to their threaded grounds. . One was on the Soob motor and it read 53.1 on the 200 scale. Another one from and unknown source measured 2,6 on the 200 scale. The other one measured zero. The new 2 pole sender measured zero on either pole to the threaded ground.

I found the info on the net surprisingly vacant on this simple but off the cuff application. Most delivered info on straight specific part numbers and models of cars etc. I might just put my mechanical gauge back in as time is getting very short.

On the other hand, the engine runs very nicely and started right up with no fuss at all. Still have to install the rear motor mount.
