SPEEDSTERS MEET SPYDERS AT CARLISLE – MAY 14-17, 2015 – OUR 12thYEAR

Join us for the 12th year of the Speedsters Meet Spyders weekend in scenic Carlisle, Pennsylvania. For anyone who has never attended this event - if you own or are thinking of owning a 356 Speedster, Coupe, Cabriolet or 550 Spyder replica - this is THE event of the year! To everyone who has attended this event before, you know this is a fun-filled weekend...and this year we'll be returning to the location of our first cruise destination back in 2004 - the Eastern Museum of Motor Racing (EMMR) located on the historic Latimore Valley Fairgrounds. There is always plenty to see at the museum and they have made many changes over the past 12 years.

Dates: Thursday May 14, 2015 thru Sunday May 17, 2015

Location of activities: Carlisle Import and Kit Nationals at the Carlisle Fairgrounds and surrounding countryside

Host hotel: Courtyards by Marriott, 4921 Gettysburg Road, Mechanicsburg, Pa. 17055

IF YOU’RE COMING TO CARLISLE YOU NEED TO DO THE FOLLOWING:

What's happening during the weekend? The Carlisle Import and Kit Nationals weekend has MANY things happening import- and replica-related so check their website, watch for updates, and sign-up to receive their emails. In addition to Carlisle’s activities we’ll be fender-to-fender at the fairgrounds during the day plus doing cruises, dinners, a cruise to the Racing Museum, raffles, giveaways, bench racing, partying, and more from Thursday through Sunday. Come for the day or enjoy the entire weekend! You can expect to meet many owners from all over the United States and Canada and probably other parts of the world as well, plus meet the top Speedster and Spyder manufacturers and see their products.

For the ladies: There is a pool at the hotel for your relaxing pleasure so some of you might want to organize a pool party and/or a shopping/lunch trip into town. Also, if you have space, bring your lawn chairs for socializing under our tent at the fairgrounds.

For anyone arriving without a Speedster or Spyder, you may order event pass tickets for the weekend either on-line at the link above or simply buy event tickets when you arrive at Gate 3 and tell them you’re with the “SPEEDSTER OWNERS” club.

SPEEDSTERS MEET SPYDERS AT CARLISLE – MAY 14-17, 2015

Keep in mind, this is a meet and not a competitive show, if you can get your Speedster, Coupe, Cabriolet or Spyder there - regardless of its condition - bring it. There will be awards for the longest distances driven and the longest distances trailered. And you're welcome even if you can't bring your car or are still shopping for one. Come on out and join us, we’ve had as many as 65+ cars in attendance and this may prove to be our biggest year yet! Watch this thread for updates and announcements.

Other than your Carlisle registration and Saturday evening awards dinner you don’t have to pay anything else in advance – just pay as you go.
One exception: we ask that everyone bring a contribution (new parts, products, goodies, memorabilia, etc) for the annual raffle held at the hotel Saturday evening.

One last thing: PLEASE complete the RSVP form (see below) and let us know the details of your plans so we can plan accordingly.

Come out and join us, you won’t be disappointed!

Drive ‘em, tow ‘em, trailer ‘em, but get them there somehow!!
"East Coast" Bruce

Gala Saturday Evening Awards Dinner

The venue for presenting the distance awards is the Gala Saturday Evening Awards dinner. The awards dinner is always the finale of the weekend with awards, giveaways and more. After receiving many compliments last year we'll be back to the same super location of the Radisson Hotel Harrisburg in Camp Hill, Pennsylvania - just 10 minutes from our host hotel. Not only is the food delicious but they have once again worked to give us the same great price and the best food and facilities. Since we contract with the Radisson on an advanced headcount basis, we ask that you submit payment by May 1st (see additional details below). The dinner will be a buffet menu, following are the details:

What if I need to cancel my reservation? If necessary, you will be able to cancel your reservation up until midnight, Friday May 8. After that date we will be committed to a headcount and not able to refund your money.

What if I decide to join you after the May 1 deadline? We cannot guarantee adding people after May 1 due to the room capacity, contracted headcount and pre-ordering of food. Let me know as soon as you become aware of a change in your plans and I'll let you know if we can add you in.

Is there a max headcount? We have plenty of space but there is a room capacity. Reservations will be on a ”first come, first served” basis, so please get your checks and RSVP form to me ASAP.

What is the schedule for Saturday evening? It’s only 10 minutes from the Marriott to the Radisson. Everyone should plan to arrive at the Radisson at 6:30 PM for a 30-minute social with dinner starting promptly at 7:00. The awards presentations will follow dinner.

Just to keep the stoke going for Carlisle 2015, here's is the video from my last visit to Carlisle in 2013. A great time hanging out with 80-90 of my best friends, their cool cars and great times! I never get tired of watching this video.

Hope it amps up the excitement for first time attendees to SOC Carlisle!

For HD video quality, when video begins, click "GEAR" icon in lower right and adjust video quality to 720HD.

WHAT'S HAPPENING THURSDAY?

Thursday is the first day of the Speedsters Meet Spyders weekend and the day our long-distance travelers start arriving and stretching their legs. The Courtyard Marriott parking lot starts to fill up and many more of the folks who just can't wait for the weekend to begin start to arrive. If you're early enough, take some time and enjoy a quick dip in the hotel pool or gather in the parking lot and meet the arriving participants.

Around 5:00 PM we'll gather in the parking lot of the Courtyard Marriott for a photo session and drivers meeting. Dress is casual and Hawaiian shirts are popular but make sure you save one for the Saturday evening awards dinner. At 5:30 we'll leave for a beautiful countryside cruise to the Caddy Shack restaurant at the Armitage Country Club (www.caddyshackrestaurant.com). Our Thursday evening group used to be small but we've grown over the years to a much larger number as the Carlisle weekend became more popular. The Caddy Shack has been our go-to Thursday dinner location for many years and they always come through with plenty of reserved space on their large covered deck, super service, an extensive menu and payment by separate checks. The wings are some of the best - not to mention many other tasty eats. And the beer is cold!

Following dinner at the Caddy Shack we'll head back to the hotel. The evenings are always a great time to socialize and party and the hospitality suite at the Courtyard Marriott is the place to be. By 9:00 things are rolling and the room fills up. BYOB and snacks and spend the rest of the evening making new friends, catching up with old friends and telling stories – sometimes to 1:00 AM and later.

Tomorrow's another day and we'll be starting out early...

From another thread...

Danny, my brutha! Unfortunately I won't be able to join you all in Carlisle this year. Same issues as last year.

Ginny's mother, Helen, lives with us and we provide her healthcare. Helen celebrated her 100th birthday last Thanksgiving. She is relatively healthy but requires monitoring for her own safety (poor balance, assist with walking, getting dressed, prepare meals, etc.). So, we are unable to leave her for extended periods. A local weekend away is more feasible for us (with paid health care provider staying at home with Helen).

I'm thinking that when the time is right, I will be driving my VS out to Carlisle and pick up where we left off on the shenanigans!
