Hey everyone,,,hope you've all been reserving your rooms in SLO.  I'll post the hotel info below for those who haven't.  This is going to be the official event topic for the West Coast Cruise also known as the WCC or even the WCDC (West Coast Drinking Cruise).

The hotel is secured and now we need to come up with a couple of meals and a cruise.  Terry, Will, Robert??  If anyone's out there still offering to help with any part of this, let me know via email or PM.

I'm looking at trying to get the hotel to allow us to use their room again for dinner on Saturday night.  I'm also looking into dinner for that night and have an idea for a BBQ night.  A local restaurant does great BBQ and catering.  The initial inquiry has me looking at a cost of $20-$25/ pp for meals that include BBQ ribs, chicken and tri-tip along with all the sides.

We need to come up with lunch and cruise plans, but I'll take care of that outside of this topic (like I said, PM me if you have ideas).

Like and follow this topic for all the updates as they happen.  This year I will only be taking Paypal or checks mailed in for the meal(s) prior to the cruise.  I'll let you know soon.

Okay,,,Here is the official information regarding dates...

We will be staying at the same hotel since it seems to be the most accommodating and convenient for our group.  The dates are June 9th through June 11th.  For those who wish to stay through Sunday the 11th and checkout on Monday the 12th, the hotel will take care of that when you call.

The rooms will be under the SOC or Speedster Group.  We currently have 25 rooms blocked.  In the past we've struggled to fill all the rooms and usually hit around 20 rooms, but with the interest this year I would suggest jumping on this ASAP so you're not left out.

As a side note, the room rate increased from $185 to $195, but given the price of real estate these days, I'm going to say that's nominal especially given their hospitality in the past.

There is a huge caravan from SoCal every year.  They meet up at the no tell motel in Malibu and head out together. They make up the bulk of the rowdy crowd in SLO each year. You will be in good company.

Alexis and I are in if the Speedster is back up and running by then.  I'll be taking the car off the road very shortly to prep for the 5 speed swap. I have several little jobs I want to tackle while the car is inop.

March - June.  Nearly 3 months? Should be doable. *gulp*

I'm going to put this in my calendar now and see if I can get the wifey to say yes. Maybe she can follow in the Touareg with baby Natalie and join in on the fun.

I should have all the bugs work out of Eleanor to make a drive to SLO. Maybe @MusbJim and anyone else is So Cal would make the drive up too...

Weird - I also have a wife, a baby girl, and a Touareg. I just need a speedster and I'm in!

I'm sure you'll make the date!

I have little odds and ends to finish up: sealing the engine compartment, clutch cable adjustment, finishing painting the underside, minor suspension adjustment, fuel sender float adjustment (if needed), oil change/valve job...

It doesn't seem like much, but I don't get a lot of time to do the work each weekend

Edit: And I'm looking at replacing the engine (build or have built - haven't decided)...

If you can get your wife to tag along in the Toureg you lead a better life than I, Brian. Just make sure she gets some seat time in Eleanor...

Anyone interested in a caravan from the Sacramento area? I will be coming down from South Lake Tahoe. Meet up some where around the area on Friday around 10:00am or so. Your thoughts valley area guys and gals?

We might be driving to Bakersfield first then over the 46 to SLO. There may be two of us coming out of Bakersfield. Fresno people, Teby, Troy, Robert... maybe meet at a rally point on the 46? @majorkahuna maybe you Terry and Kevin can meet at rally point too? Any ideas? Something close to the 5.

Maybe in Kettleman it's right on the I5 and 41.  Or maybe in Sholame, there's a little store/restaurant there next to the James Dean memorial.

hey guys (newbie) do they still have the knotts berry farm show (when) or is there somewhere i can go in socal i can see some speedsters for sale?

There is no longer a show at Knott's Berry Farm. If you want so see some Speedsters you could go see Kirk at Vintage Speedsters in Hawaiian Gardens. www.vintagespeedsters.com

Or you could go see Greg at Vintage Motorcars http://vintagespyders.com/contact-us/

And there are several Speedsters for sale on this website right now.

Scott, Kevin and I are thinking about coming to SLO in April to do some reconnaissance regarding cruises, wine and food. Perhaps 4/21-22? Are you in town?

Terry,

Did you get my email reply?  That sounded like a winner, although now you let the cat out of the bag and the cops are planning to show up too!  We're screwed now!! LOL

Yes, Robert McKnucklehead, you are welcome to stay here too!!  In fact, I'd have it no other way...

Keep me posted!

P.S. Just don't bring the CROOKED ACCOUNTANT! He's busy cooking the books for tax season!

First, required reading: in the Articles section of the site read Paul Harford's article, "Are You Ready for A Speedster?".

Visit Vintage in Hawaiian Gardens. Check the Makers section of the website and look at what is available to be built.

Consider how you intend to use it. Daily driver? Talk to MusbJim, first.

There are varying degrees of quality and creature comfort in these. Everybody has an opinion, just mention a maker and stand back.....

Check with Troy Sloan and DrClock on this site to see what they are building out. Both highly reputable refurbisher/builders.

All excellent advice.  Notice how Panhandle (MUSB??) Bob skipped right over the question about Corvettes.  They never have been and never will be appreciated by the P- crowd.  I recall many a group B and grp C SCCA race featuring Corvettes and 356s on the track at the same time back in the 60s.  What a hoot.  Fierce competition, and truth be told, sometimes the plastic pigs, as we would call them, won and sometimes the good guys.  As to the denigrating "plastic pigs", who knew then??  gotta watch what I say these days . . .

Thanks guys for the excellent advice. i am going to go visit vintage speedsters and vintage spyders.    they are both close by.    i would also like to go to monterey.    my wife and i drove a shell valley cobra i built, up the coast there.  so nice!   i retired so i don't need to commute anymore. so i really don't need the vette.   i have always liked the speedsters, and its something i can turn wrenches on.    i wouldn't mind building my own, but it seems i can buy one turnkey for not that much more money.   thanks.

Brian - for the SLO gig, a bunch of the SoCal peeps (and other areas) rendezvous 10:00AM Friday morning in Malibu (PCH & Topanga Cyn). Typically there are 10+ cars that meet up & caravan  to SLO. It's quite a sight to see a parade of Speedsters cruising up the coast & 101!

The trip sheet will be posted as the time draws near. Hope you can join the caravan.

Nancy and I are booked. Looking forward to seeing everyone again this year. And looking forward to seeing all of the new people as well.

By my count for new people we may have: Cory McCloskey, Paul Ellis, Bob Hampton, Seth aka Seth356, Brian aka *Longfella, SF-Speedster, and everyone's favorite perennial new guy Teby S.

It's going to be a big group this year.
