Just announced by Carlisle Events for the Replica & Kit Nationals weekend:

Meet Peter Brock in 2013
Carlisle has a history of hosting some of the most important names in automotive history. This year, the tradition continues as legendary author and designer Peter Brock makes a special weekend appearance. In 1965 Brock launched his own company, Brock Racing Enterprises (BRE) which sealed its place in the record books with its many successes with Datsun Zs and 510s. Prior to BRE, he had some pretty impressive successes in the automotive design field, most notably penning the classic forms that would eventually become the famed ’63 “split window” Corvette Stingray, a design celebrating 50 years in 2013. In addition, after a move to the west coast, Brock designed the body for the World Championship winning Cobra Daytona Coupe for Shelby American. Brock is a true innovator within the industry and you can meet this great man on-site throughout the weekend at Carlisle.”

I defy ANYONE in the SOC group to arrive in an Hawaiian shirt even moderately close to the flash of some of the outfits next door, last year.  I stepped out to the men's room during the evening and was just blown away by the gorgeously colorful outfits.  And THAT was just in the Men's room!  Get out in the foyer and the women's outfits were breath-taking!!  Even the kids had great outfits!!

Maybe we can invite ol' Mgwabe (yes, that's his real name) to the SOC gala??

One thing's for sure, though........Even though I had a real, Bose, state-of-the-art sound system that truly did the job for me (I kinda laughed when someone asked me if anyone would be able to hear those tiny speakers), their sounds out-gunned me by several thousand watts.

SCHEDULE CHANGE – ANNUAL RAFFLE:

We're tweaking the weekend schedule a bit this year. The past few years we have held the annual raffle Saturday afternoon around 4:30 in the host hotel hospitality suite. The raffle generally runs long and creates some difficulty because we had to rush back from the fairgrounds and, in addition to the raffle, squeeze in time to clean up and get ready for dinner.

This year we're going to try something different. We're holding the raffle back in the hospitality suite AFTER the Saturday evening dinner. This will create less of a rush between leaving the fairgrounds and leaving for dinner... maybe even allow time for a relaxing drink by the pool before heading for the showers. In addition, we'll move the dinner-time activities along so we can return to the hotel at a reasonable time for the raffle.

One note on the raffle, it's a lot of fun and there are always great things to win. Other than your Carlisle registration and the Saturday evening dinner you don't have to pay anything in advance – just pay as you go. One exception: we ask that everyone bring a contribution (new parts, products, goodies, memorabilia, etc,) for the raffle. It's our one fund-raiser to cover weekend expenses and we appreciate everyone's participation.

We think this scheduling change will be an improvement so let's give it a try.

From Carlisle:

"Beat the Clock on the Autocross Track
An annual part of the Import & Kit Nationals is the ability to make some fast laps on the autocross track. Through our partnership with the Susquehanna Region of the SCCA, this is a sanctioned event so you know it will be fun as well as safe. If you’ve never tried to autocross before, they will have experienced drivers on hand to give you pointers. To make it even easier for newbies, our course is more like a traditional road course making it much less likely that you’ll get lost in a sea of cones. Experienced drivers enjoy the mini road course atmosphere and elevation changes. Think you have what it takes? Give it a go in May."

Everyone,

Carlisle's deadline is quickly approaching for us to get a free tent on the showfield IF we achieve a certain number of registrations. In addition, the more registrations we achieve by that deadline the larger the tent.

If you are coming to Carlisle this year and have not registrered - even if you have not RSVP'd yet - please follow the registration instructions provided earlier in this thead as soon as possible and then let me know when you do so I can update my records.

As you know, the tent is the perfect gathering place for our group and bigger is always better!  Your help is appreciated. Thanks.

Host hotel rooms are sold out - but there are others nearby....

I just received an email from one of our Speedster owners saying he called for a room today and was told our block of 47 rooms at the host hotel - Courtyard Harrisburg West/Mechanicsburg - is sold out.  For those of you who have not yet made hotel reservations, the following link to Google Maps outlines several hotels located within 2-3 miles of the host hotel and some still have vacancies:
