I am building an outlaw speedster and I am deciding if I do it with the normal front, or without regillas and with winks alone like the PreA or directly only with the optics, do any have photos to see how it looks? I could put the winks on the lamps that have the ring of my opticsRead More...

We live on a little island and mostly drive around the edges a few feet above sea level. Our speedster is very happy with this. Since I'd put around 500 miles on the speedo since I last had to be towed home (fan blew up), my wife said that she was ready to go somewhere with me. She said it was hot and she was going stir crazy working in the yard, so we should drive upcountry. On Maui, upcountry is most of the island. We live on the world's largest dormant volcano, Haleakala. There are a...Read More...

Whilst rummaging through my shop last week I uncovered a set of engine cover bumper buttons that I had ordered from Carey Hines at Beck maybe four years ago. I decided that it was high time to install them on my CMC (which now has parts on it from just about every maker, it seems) because for the past 20 years I have been running a length of Frost King Door weather strip around the opening. It looked cool - It's white, the car is white, it sealed well and didn't rattle, so?........ So I...Read More...

Loosen Windshield to smooth out bubbles in dash vinyl

I have a 1989 CMC Speedster and need to loosen the windshield to access and smooth out dash vinyl that has bubbled in spots from adhesive underneath giving way. If I do so to press the bubbled vinyl flat in the direction of the windshield and/or pull the vinyl from the hood side, I believe I can repair the dash. My concern is cracking the glass if I don't loosen it the correct way. If I can loosen the centre rod, I believe I can smooth the area of vinyl that has bubbled but my concern is...Read More...

Hi everyone, I have a new convertible top, 1/4 tonneau cover and side curtains for my car. I’m looking to get a upholstery shop to install it. Our local guy does great work but doesn’t have a lot of experience with speedsters. My question is, how long would it take to install the top, tonneau and side curtains? I also have a new top header bow too. Also if anyone could tell me where the 2 button go on the car for the tonneau cover straps? ThanksRead More...

Remote Oil Filter Idea

Hey all, I just bought a couple of oil filters for one of my motorcycles from Perf-Form and when they came they had a flyer for a new product-a remote filter cannister for HD bikes. It got me thinking: this might be just the thing to combine with a CB oil pump to add a little filtering. I have a 2L motor and with the Thing shroud I installed last year I don't really need any extra cooling, more capacity never hurt (although this would probably only add about a half liter, tops) and I like...Read More...

Are there any other northern CA knuckleheads interested in being my "dance" partner? A 200 mile day can cover most everywhere in any one or two of these wine country counties. Over the last 8-1/2 years, I'm pretty sure I've been on every paved back road, side road, and main road within a 100 mile radius of the center of all three counties: Calistoga. Traffic has yet to return to pre-COVID numbers, the odds of any rain go down every day, and you can "pump Ethyl" all you want for under $3.Read More...

Coupe (re)build

Forum: Newbies
I bought this coupe a few years ago, solicited advice on registering it in NV on this site way back when. I still haven't registered the car. I probably have a full 24 hrs in to the DMV process here. I'll get it done I'm certain I was new to these type cars when I bought it, when it arrived I was surprised by the spartan interior (through my own ignorance of what the cars are more than anything). I decided to redo some things on the car, collected a bunch of parts, started, and then due to...Read More...
