And this lead to another potential can of worms come to think of it. Before we Canucks import a car from the States we must export it from the States. In New York that means providing the correct paperwork ( title, clearance from any financial encumbrances etc., sales receipt from the seller etc. ) 72 hours prior to border crossing from USA to Canada. Apparently this is to allow the US side to research the documents to prove that the vehicle was not stolen, used in a felony is not subject to any liens etc. which sounds reasonable. Now...some States allow a replica to be titled as a VW but I'm not sure if New York does. If they don't, would that be reason that they might not let me export a replica that is titled from some other State that does allow a replica to be titled as a VW ? Dunno.
