Is this a replica of a car that actually was produced by Porsche, or is it someone's idea of what might have been?

Answered my own question. Yup, purpose built for racing. Apparently terrible ventilation and claustrophobia generating as reported by the drivers.

From the pics, the replica body isn't an exact match to the original.
