I don't like the wart on the engine lid. Why not put a 90 degree elbow on the carb and face the air cleaner forward. You could even cut a big hole in the "fire wall" and put the air cleaner (or a K&N air box) in the big unused space there. A boat inspection hatch could be put in the rear seat back area (inside the car) to maintain it.
