I think it was squeezed/forced in there. I tried giving the spindle a tap with a mallet, but I didn‘t hit it too hard in case I damaged something internally. An expert (or at least someone with more alternator experience than I) will probably give it a right old wallop, but that’ll be on his head. So, another place to find and see if they’ll help during lockdown..
