Built in a tent or not, I'm not sure we ever achieve trust. Tolerance may be the best we can hope for.

Trust implies a certain steady state - there's a permanence to it. It's something in the bank we can draw against.

Tolerance is an uneasy truce that can be broken at any time.

And it doesn't take much. An unscheduled ride through a hailstorm. Losing one's oil to a manhole cover. Needing a new engine at an untimely time.

Trust is a worthwhile goal - like achieving world peace or finding all of one's socks in the dryer, but I'm learning to be content with tolerance and take life as it comes.
