In real cars it was called a fire wall - neither fiberglass nor plywood would stop any fire. I would keep that space and use it for a dry space for the ECU and air cleaner. I'd cover the fiberglass/plywood with some kind of fireproof noise deadener. I always like the look of machine tooled (swirled) aluminum.
