If you have the deeper sump capacity I have found it very beneficial to run the oil 1/2 qt. Low or it tries to blow it out of the crankcase all over the place until it gets to 1/2 qt. Lo and then stops.

But that is on a 2,110 engine with a deep sump, not a mostly stock 1642.
