Some of the OEM parts replacement suppliers show the old VW style plastic oval in the headliner of coupes and in-dash for A's. I suspect the Speedster never had any. Why not install some LEDs up under dash where they can't be seen but give you foot well illumination. I have one of these map reading lights from an old MG I had -
