Whether Allen or 12 point star bit, I ALWAYS use a dead-blow hammer to seat the tool into the CV bolt before I wrench it, and keep inward pressure on the ratchet/breaker-bar when loosening. Sometimes the smack helps with the loosening. After I get them off, the bolts get a nice bath in a parts washer.
