I think I had the original dizzy replaced with the Pertronix unit about 5 years ago. I just checked and it is definitely cylinder #1, and it seems to be getting a weak or intermittent spark. It happens at all RPMs so it is unlikely that it's an idle jet. Sounds like replacing the wires should be my first stop rather than another carb teardown.
