As a new (future) Accusump installer I'm keen to hear how this turns out. How big is your accumulator? I wonder if, running a couple quarts low, you set up a system in which the Accusump itself would suck up all the oil in the case until—whoops, no pressure!—then quickly discharge some back.

In which case the fix would be what you're doing: add more oil.
