If you are serious about selling your car, I suggest that you complete the registration process. Trying to sell a replica without a current registration is extremely difficult, as it should be. An interested buyer is not likely to be convinced that the "paperwork got hung up at DMV investigations". I'm not suggesting any impropriety, but it's a major factor for a potential buyer.
