A screw in stud seems easy to me. Hole is already 12mm. M14-2.00 requires a 12.7mm hole to tap, which happens to be 1/2". Drill hole, tap hole. Chuck a piece of 5/8" bar in lathe. Spin big end to 14mm and thread. Spin small end to 12mm and thread 12mm. Install stud with loc-tite. Voila!
