For work, I ended up with a collection of headlamps. Imo, the best are 123-powered LED. I have a dual brightness one that’s my favorite, but now that I don’t get free 123’s, my favorite is a dual-powered one that I power with a single rechargeable AA.
For my work, the rechargeable Li-ion lamps took too long to recharge and the charge didn’t last though a 8 hour load out. But for car work, just about anything is fine.
