rsk basic kit

Well, it's not a Bugatti in a barn, but it is an RSK basic kit (space frame of 1 and 1/2 inch rectangular tubing, with some 1 inch round and rectangular tubes, fiber glass body, tub, and doors, glass windshield, head rest rear deck) in a barn. Manufacturer is uncertain (owner claims it is an old BECK). There is some surface rust on the frame, which would likely respond to sandblasting, or wire wheeling.
If you've read down to here I appreciate your patience! The problem is the rear suspension. There are mounting points on the bottom frame member laterally, similar to trailing arm designs, but the arms would be quite short (12-14 inches maybe). Owner says this is for mounting pre-67 bug rear suspension, about which I know nothing. He has a single cv joint bug transaxle and shafts with backing plates jury rigged into place (with hose clamps!). I have limited fabrication skills, and there are no qualified shops around here (Ottawa Ontario), to give an opinion.
Is anyone familiar with this kind of kit, and with the rear suspension as described? I love the car, but would like to get safe and decent handling when all is said and done. Owner is asking about 3 thousand US for it, by the way. Thanks. Louis.
