Scott.....This does sound like your clutch is dragging.....As I do not know what "Brand" your Spyder is, I will assume it is a Beck....

Under the spare tire, on the passenger side of the trans mission, you will find your clutch cable....There should be a Wing Nut on a threaded end attached to a bell crank assembley.....Try turning the wing nut clock wise as you view the end of the cable...Make only two (2) turns and then test the results....Also check visualy the visible length of the cable for damage.....Any broken strands of wire indicates a problem, and a new cable will be required to properly repair the car....
