Carlos: The metal thickness is about the same as the VW sled tins, whatever that is. I had enough kicking around so I used that, rather than buying some aluminum sheet.

Besides, why use something easy when you can make it more difficult?

The good news is that it's warm enough out today that I can spray them satin black and make them pu-urty.
