A'59 Bugeye was where it all started for me. I think I was probably in 8th or 9th grade when my brother bought one for probably $50-$100 and we proceeded to strip it to bare metal and get it repainted ($50) in BRG, as well as rebuild the engine with little more than a Crescent wrench. He farmed the machine work out, and we had to borrow a torque wrench to put the long block back together.

At one point, he scored a "Sebring" front end for it, but he sold it before he could install it and bought a Turner Mk III from a neighbor.
