I feel your pain, bro. My CMC speedster had a rear lid that hit the fan shroud, and it was an ugly problem. I got myself a Puma fan shroud (The Samba classifieds) and had custom stainless steel hinge brackets made. They are plenty strong.

I even had to droop my expensive Taiwanese muffler to fit properly. PITA!
