The main advantage of the classic John Muir pair of scissors jacks is that once the engine is just a couple inches off the ground on the fully compressed jacks it's no trick to pull the jacks out one at a time, leaving the engine sitting on the plywood the jacks were on. Can't do that with just the one transmission jack.
