Reply to "VS 1776 w/AC what carbs?"

First, yes the dual Kads will fit with your a/c if it is the set up from VS. But, you'll need to get a different set of brackets from Kirk to set the a/c in a position that doesn't get in the way of the drivers side carb and linkage.

Second. You might consider removing the a/c. I had it on my car at delievry and it worked great. But, I simply never used it. Hot/Warm? Top Down. Cool? Top up. No a/c needed. It weighs boo-coo, and as John H said, it is a real sob to deal with when geting to the left side plugs or carb, and makes changing points a miserable job (if you don't have a Comp-u-fire, et al). Sell it and take the $1000 and put it into better stuff.

Third. Someone asked about where to get Kads? The very best guy in the world to get Kads set up for your car is AJ Smith. He charges around $360+ for a set... but they are jetted and squirt set for your app. Plus the intakes are polished and the linkage is all set up. I would go with a Berg linkage though, even though the Scat is also an excellent Kad linkage. As far as chokes? I thought those new ones were 34s.... am I wrong? I live in an area that gets pretty cold and haven't run into a need for chokes, FWIW.

Fourth. I just went from baby Webers (34ICTs) to a pair of 40IDFs, and the difference is phenonemal. It took a few days to find that sweet spot on them, but now they seem to be set perfect. Kads are good carbs, but can be a little testy getting set up right... but I think on a 1776 that is built (not a mexican crate engine, they will be a real plus in performance. The 34ICTs work good, and are probably great on stocker 1600-1776s, but if you have a cam, headwork, bigger valves etc, they just aren't quite the ticket. That's been my experience anyway. John Connely recommends going to 44s, and just going smaller with the internals. If I ever get my hands on a pair through horse trading I'll get them.

I just sold a pair of AJs Kads to a forum member. They were new, except I ran them on a bench engine for 30 minutes. They really ran sweet, and if I had not fell into a great deal on these 40IDFs I would be running the Kads on my car today!
