Reply to "Wanted - Subbie Coupe Replica"

There are very limited options for coupes at this time. You can go the used route but since not as many were built there aren't as many available on the used market.

There are only a few people building new coupes and the wait can be long. Vintage Motorcars is the closest for you since they are located in Hawaiian Gardens, CA. Greg builds a Pre-A bent window coupe on a VW chassis and they are very well done cars.

Carey Hines at Beck - Special Edition is building a coupe based on the 356 B body style if I'm not mistaken but there is at least a year long wait. It might even be two years. As soon as people found out he was building one the pre-sale list sold out quickly. He is close to finishing the first and second cars. The first car is going to Chuck Beck and the second car is going to our own Lane Anderson.

Then there is JPS Motorsports but I have no personal experience with them. There is a multitude of information on this site regarding JPS products and the man himself. You either love him or you hate him. Educate yourself before you sign on the line with him. Most people find it better to buy a used JPS product than having to do business with him.

Whatever you do, just remember, it's a replica. It will never do what the original will do in terms of comfort, fit, finish, etc etc. But if taken care of I don't see why a coupe replica couldn't work as a daily driver.

Robert,

Thank you for the info. I plan to look for a second hand Coupe. Will give the search a year then reevaluate. Is there anywhere else I should be looking besides Craig’s List?

Tony
