Reply to "Wipers"

So after I got back from my drive yesterday I took a few minutes to look at the new wiper assembly. I couldn't drill a hole in the attachment arm because there wasn't any space above the attachment arm where the top of the spindle would sit. Once the wiper arm is pushed forward so the blade rests on the window the top of the attachment arm is resting against the bottom of the wiper arm cover.

So the next option was to re-profile the spindle. I used a grinder to grind down the spindle shorter. I fit the wiper arm onto the spindle but it still wasn't low enough. The bottom of the attachment arm was now hitting the top of the splined portion of the spindle and that is tapered. I didn't want to enlarge the hole in the attachment arm so I got my Dremel and small grinding wheel so i could reshape the splined part.

I found it best to attach the small grinding wheel with the abrasive face of the wheel facing back toward the Dremel. I reshaped the flared spindle and reattached the wipers. They sit much lower now and the open trunk clears with plenty of room.
