I had a couple of similar incidents, although not with a high reading on the temp gauge, so check out the following:

Does the fuel line sit close to a heat source like the cooling shroud? Moving the line away from the heat source may help.
Could your gas cap not be venting properly? Try popping the cap the next time it happened and then seeing if it restarts.
