You would be extremely happy with a 78mm crank in the type 4. I built a 2056 type 4 in my 914 and it was plenty fast and fun. Keep the 71mm crank, and keep the 96mm bore. Just balance everything, choose a good all around cam like a webcam 494...and spend your money on some good head work. This combo will be very peppy and fun.
