A month or so ago I did a Cars and Coffee with my son in his Carrera and me in my Speedster. My son brought his two boys, 7 and 9 years old, with him, stuffed in the back seats. Halfway there, we both took off out of a stop light with the Carrera pulling away at Warp 8 while I was still running on thrusters. 😳
When we got to the C&C place, the 7 year old sees me and says “We smoked ya, Grampa!”

My brother in law had an M3 convertible and it did a ton of things well. Getting noticed at a stop light wasn't one of them. In the land around here, Beemers in all forms don't get a second glance amongst the sea of Teslas and Porsches.
My BIL has had multiple 5 series as company cars too and they've become the upscale Toyota Camry/Honda Accord of yore. Incredibly capable but boring. He sold his M3 and bought a Aston Martin coupe. That thing screams and is a blast to drive. Parked beside a 356, Coupe or Super Widebody, only one of those cars will get admiring stares and questions.
But expecting a 4 speed 150HP car on for the most part, ancient underpinning to hang even close to a M3, AM or even a Tesla makes no sense. Miles per smile there's simply no comparison though.
Teslas do 0-60 in like 2.5 seconds don't they?
Which is about three seconds faster than my stomach would get there..........
I tried to get Henry at IM to build me a coupe back in the day, an A or pre A for me is the body I really like.
Well I guess it became a who's who of who has what. Bravo!
I am not a BMW enthusiast, but the E46 has its own following, just as 356 Porsches, or 356 Porsche replicas. My kid loves the 32x series.
Ok... my latest build is this. And no, I am not comparing how fast it is compared to something else. 396 small block or not.
Its about what you like. Enjoy it all!

I love those E46 32X cars as well, especially with a manual.
The C3 'vette's pretty cool as well.

That's super cool. When I was a kid, I fanasized for about a year about building a Turbulent after I saw one in my oldest brother's airplane magazines. My brother went on to a career flying C5's. I stayed in the ground with other VW-powered toys.

396 is a chevy big block(rat motor) had a 66 vette 396....if ur refer to a small block it is most likely a 383 stroker(350 bored w different crank)

and the 400 was a small block. and if you used a 302 crank in the 400 non oversized bores, it would be a 377. oh, the good old days of mixing and matching. how about a 391 - that a 350 with a 400 crank with the 350 5.7" longer rod. But my memory fades

@MaxMartens (one of the original posters) brought up his 'vette with the bi 'ol SBC. We're just running with it, as is the fashion. We're not in the Classified section, so I think we're good to go.
It's more on point than airplane pictures. 
And I was just thinking that a 'Vette with small block weight but big block power would be sooo cool to drive!
There are many cars that others really like and that I can appreciate even if I might not buy one

Its not who you work with, but how you work with somebody. That would be on topic with this thread. JC and I got coupes after 4bangers failed attempt. Vey nice coupes no less. Perfect no, but pretty darn good (JC's had issues). They aren't supercars... maybe a super VW. ...About an average real 356 Porsche and an ok replica. Maybe. ZF knows my coupe moves out. I know JC's car moves out. But just average VW or Subie hi-po.
I brought up my latest car as when I post a pic of my boy and I out driving the back roads (he in his 2000 beemer) & people start bragging up their 'ultimate' cars. Me me me... So, so did I. Off topic hits quick on this forum lol. But what do you expect for a JPS thread. Its a condescending thread.
I knew some knowledge-less soul would start yapping how a 396 is a big block. Bite! Yes it usually is. Different combinations of stroked small block are becoming popular. And powerful.
I chose the 396 sbc just for this reason. For some ignoramus to tell me its a big block. LOL Fun. It has big block power across the board. I could of picked a 427 sb also. I wont speak any more of my car. Its for other areas of motorsport interest.

My local RSF C&C is still going on. It has always been a medium sized contingents though. You went to the RSF C&C during your JPC shake out weekend. Come down again and bring your bike (find a way to mount it on the coupe). Don’t know about the OC C&C though.

Sounds great. Yes I’m a roadie but I also have a Mtn Bike. And I found a way to mount it on a repro Lietz luggage rack that’s on my 912. My Vintage gets driven all year round but I can always find time to drive a Suby Coupe. Send her my way if you ever want to part ways with your JPS - I’m calling first I think I told you that last year 😁

My friend jncspyder has a pretty faithful to original in sinister black coupe (pictured above) . It's a great socal car. He has been putting nice parts on it since he took delivery. Another Subie mover.
He turned me on to Bobs, as Robert hooked me up at RSF C&C. Both fun events friends. Thank you.

There's a bay window bus that shows up to local shows that is painted in black chalkboard paint. He rolls up and puts boxes of caulk out left and right.
Mostly it's fun for the kids, but a couple of times he's had some real artists go at it, with striking results.

My car cannot be much lower. The big azz Subie oil pan is the limiting factor - and I have already drug it. Sure feels low climbing in!
Fogged in, raining & some snow now in my fabulous (?) PNW at the moment. The car is on the tender, covered & sea foam in the tank. And ready for spring.
Just got back from a walk through the neighborhood in the Atlantic Northeast and, I gotta tell ya, we were freezin' our cheeks off out there (yeah, those, too!)
35º when we left, walked for 20 minutes and 28º when we got back at 15:45. This really sucks after having two weeks of mid to upper 70's!
This is that time of year where regardless of how good your cockpit heat is, the rest of the car is really stiff from the cold and rides like a truck. Lots of new squeeks and (g)rumbles and the shifts are always stiff because the transmission never really warms up.
Hate the thought of putting Pearl away for her hibernation, but life is getting in the way.
We had a string of 60°< this week. Got out for a little drive yesterday, put my new/old tires on and tried them out. Was planning on a nice drive today but although it's 62°, is sprinkling and overcast. Probably snowing where I'd planned on driving.
Due for rain/snow the rest of the week. Fingers crossed for a few nice days next week.
Max, Small Car Specialties makes a shortened oil pan for Subaru. It's not cheap, $400, but is cast aluminum.

Subarus are mounted in the Subaru chassis higher due to their transmission design.
Then you can lower it or not, but worry no more about dragging the pan.
There are others available, or you can cut your own down.

@MaxMartens I used the Small Car pan in my build circa 2014 and it's very good.
The shortened pan should be standard equipment on any Suby install.
My only negative thought would be, cast aluminum cracks. If this one hits the ground (which it shouldn't right?) it stands to crack. I have cracked aluminum cases on motorcycles. Just saying.
My stocker is steel, and a very thick bottom on it.
Fuel for thought. ...I better buy an improved shifter first lol.
Max, my old CB thinline sump is cast aluminum, and it never hit the ground.
It could conceivably crack but if you hit something hard enough to do that a cracked pan will likely be the least of your problems.
They tested it under a Synchro van by jacking the whole van up with it.
