They are the perfect size and I was hot to put one on my Suby engine where the A/C compressor was mounted. Very versatile connection wise too. They are good for up to 2.2 ltr.  Only problem is getting a new one. Last time I checked only rebuilt ones were available. The real negative is that they have a problem with overheating. I have two friends who tried them. One just locked up and shucked the drive belt and the other barely will turn due to metal to metal contact. I'm not sure about what causes this but there is some suspicion that they are trying to turn them too fast.

I sure wish someone would get them straightened out. They are small and compact and would fit all kinds of small engines. They are about the size of two coffee cans laid side by side. Ford put this type of roots blower on their Lightning pick-up with excellent success..................Bruce

Look up the superchargers offered by Sprintex. They make all sizes for about any engine. The one they have for motorcycles might be a very good candidate for a Vw engine. I had a Sprintex SC as an upgrade for the Eaton S/C that came on my Mini Cooper S from the factory. This with all the other mods I had done to the 1.6L inline 4 had the engine putting out a real 310HP at the crank and 289 at the front wheels. This car was a hoot!

Way back in 1965 I put a Judson supercharger on my '65 VW convertible.

I did several dumb things with the installation. I put in a 356, maybe a pre-A,  distributor without knowing if the advance curve was appropriate. I liked the cap which had the wires coming out the side. I adjusted fan belt tension by stacking up gaskets.

On the first drive with the supercharger, the engine blew up about 2 miles from home. I traded the car in on a '66 Ghia.
