Thanks George. Yea, it's fun slinging the Speedster around the corners! The course workers and spectators always cheer me on.

Our club only has about 30 cars with no Beetles or Speedsters running to compare tires. I'll probably keep the steel wheels and just keep on having fun with them. Thanks again.

Bruce and Eddie, thanks for your replies. I'm glad there are other folks actually racing these fine machines.

This was my first autocross in the Speedster (2003 Vintage) and the local SCCA club didn't know where to slot me. I ended up in B Prepared as the only car in the class. Was told that a local ARCAA stock car sometimes shows up on a trailer and races in this class!

I mostly want to stop sliding around on my Kelley metric 165 tires. Looking at my rear non-flared fenders, I think I can only get a 185 width tire without rubbing on the Vintage body. Spoke with the TireRack today and they said they didn't sell any R compound (or A) tires in the 165-185 15" size. Do you guys know of another source that carries our size?

The Yokohama Avids are supposed to have a good race/street combination and they're available in our size. Still don't know anything about the Kuomos yet. We'll figure this out together. Thanks.

Dave
I did a tire search via the TireRack and came up with 6 tires in the 185 x 65 size. Unfortunately, all of the tires are 'all season'. I couldn't find any high performance summer tires in that size. The TireRack comparision shows the Bridgestone Potenza RE 950 as the best handling tire. I had tried to use Yokohama ES100s (196 x 60), but the rear passenger tire rubbed the fender(on an 84 IM). Interestingly, it cleared the rear driver's side. What a shame, since I've heard that the ES100s are a very good handling tire. I guess I'm going with the Bridgestones. (damn, damn......)
