Went down to VMC today to deliver some wind wings to Greg.

He had just received my Spyder body from Mexico today ! Holy Crap !  This is where it starts though. The firewall and front wheel wells are cut out. This partial body now goes in the shop to be temporarily pop riveted to the frame and then sent out to the guy who will build the suspension.

When I looked at it I was a little under-impressed ! I guess I expected it to be more but after thinking about it, it's exactly how it has to "be".....the beginning ! I thought, wow !, Greg has his hands full on this one !  He said he would have this "body" on the frame this week and get it out next week for the suspension. Wouldn't you know ! Right when I'm getting ready to leave for Mexico ! He told me not to worry and made sure that we have each other's phone and email and that it would still have a lot of work to do even when I return.

Anyway, I just thought you guys would like to see how this actually starts ! I was very envious tonight  as I read Stuman"s post about his Suby powered Speedster from Special edition ! Congratulations Mr. Stuman !..........................Bruce

I'm still in Mexico but I did talk to Greg Leach at VMC yesterday on the Progress of my Spyder Project.   Three weeks ago my frame, body, engine and transmission all went to a suspension/frame builder in Santa Ana Ca. for the development of all the R&D, CAD and ,finally,  the jigs and holding fixtures.  Everything is being done in one swoop so that Greg will have a complete new Spyder frame and suspension manufacturing system to support  the production of a whole new car using a complete (ie, engine and transaxle) Subaru drivetrain. He said that he was told that it will take about 4 months to complete this part and thanked me for being so patient. No problem with this for me ! As some of you know, this last year I had to go in for a complete frame and suspension overhaul as well !  But now that I'm recovered I'm ready to look forward to the progress of my new toy being built so the timing is perfect.  Greg is really busy producing his cars right now with no clear view in the future of slowing down. Luckily for me this sidetrack to get my frame and suspension built doesn't interfere with his production.

Meanwhile I'm just enjoying the Sea of Cortez with friends. We went sailing last Wed. with friends in a  52' catamaran.  Wow !  This boat has a lot of deck and cabin space.  A really nice comfortable boat to spend a day on.  The Skipper is contemplating taking it thru the Panama Canal to Florida. Susan and I already told him "were in" if he does it.  Panama Canal is on my bucket list.   So is Ascension  Island off the coast of Brazil about half way to Africa................Bruce

DO THE PANAMA CANAL TRIP!

It is an awesome voyage and you'll love it.

Sailing a Cat across Lago Gatun all by itself could be on my bucket list and there are a bunch of places to explore along the canal and lake, especially with a low-draft Cat.

We used to take a 52' Cat out of Newport on sunset cruises and, yes, the cabins are huge with more sleeper berths in the outriggers.  They sail that same boat down to South Miami for winter charters.  Less than 5 days from Newport to Miami - Talk about flying!
