What’s everyone doing for hazzard switch when converting to vw type blinker? I’m guessing single pull double throw switch.
also, how is everyone with solid steering shaft wiring their horn button?
thanks
jeff

Never had a hazard switch in my Speedster replica.
Solid shaft: Use the trigger switch on the signal arm for a horn switch ( add a relay as the copper contacts there are very thin) .... and you'll need to install a manual floor dimmer switch . 4Ways: Locate the L & R signal wires coming out of the signal switch, wire in a jumper wire between them, cut that wire at center and install a single throw toggle switch. To operate the 4 ways : switch the toggle On and move the signal switch to either L or R ...
Thanks Alan. My signal switch doesn’t have trigger switch on it.
interesting thought on the 4 way. If someone can’t recommend a single/2 throw I may resort to that.
.
VW’s needed hazard lights, but Speedsters don’t.
People will naturally slow down and point your car out to anyone else nearby without any special lights or signals.
Just keep the paint clean and the trim shiny.
@Jsrrags on the Beck Spyder wiring (and maybe others) you can make a switch like suggested by @Alan Merklin however you also have to add a diode to the front turn signal that is on the "in" side of the switch otherwise your brake lights will backfeed to one front turn signal. This is different from a Speedster because the Speedster has 3 separate elements to control 3 functions, while the spyder has to do so with a single dual element bulb.
For the horn there are several ways. The 2 most common for me are: #1: I like to make a derin insert for the turn signal switch and then rob the horn finger off the old turn signal unit and make a custom insert that retains the horn isolation just like factory. #2: look at how it was done on a 356 (and I think old beetles) where you have an isolated copper ring around the column (spaced away form he column with plastic) with an attached wire that runs to your horn button, and a spring loaded copper ground contact that attaches to the column tube behind the dash and "rides" the isolated ring. Method #2 can be done with old 356 and VW parts, but also requires removal of the column tube and column for fabrication.
also for your dimmer, as mentioned above you'll need to add a momentary switch somewhere, but you'll also need to determine if you have the stock turn signal unit that controls changeover or if you have one that is a ground contact for a latching/changeover relay. The former will require you wire in the aforementioned relay and a momentary switch, the later would just need the momentary switch.
