Hello SOC,

My name is Brian. It is with a heavy, heavy heart that I am posting my Coupe for sale. I am in a place where my car is a luxury. I have 2 kids on their way to College, so the sacrifices have to be made. I have not advertised the car globally yet, as I wanted to post it for the friendly crowd at the SOC first. Of course, the car has brought me much joy, and has proven itself to be a reliable running little toy that I haven't played with too often. Although the motor is on the smallish side, it zips around nicely with the gearing and added features that make it a hoot. The previous owner had the motor built and I spoke with the mechanic several times to gain more info. The PO wanted a bulletproof reliable runner that didn’t overheat and yet bring miles of smiles behind the wheel. I think he succeeded. I have since added several accessories towards the reliability and sportiness. It is a fun car that you will not have any worries over.

The car was built by JPS around 2009. It has 66k on odo, 700 miles on the new motor since purchased by me. All upgrades were installed during the last 3 years of my ownership. Fresh 1600 DP w/new case, Baby 34 dual Weber’s - 110 cam - Magna spark II Dist. - CB 1.5 Qt. Thinline sump - CB Maxi-flow oil pump - Remote Oil Filter - Vintage Speed Superflow exhaust (A1 Performance modified), Vintage Speed shifter - IRS -  1.5" Narrowed trailing arms from Coolrydes (San Diego) installed 3 mos. ago - all new German bearing / bushing hardware in back, Disk brakes all around. Freeway flyer Trans. - recent 4 wheel alignment, new cooper 185/65/15 tires, Paint is patina'd. Ever-changing graphics are sharpied or Plasti-Dip painted, including wheels (All could be peeled off as desired).  It has the cool appearance of an old time racer, which is always brought-up by curious observers. Priced at 28K. For more details, please send me a PM. ad1ad2ad3ad4ad5ad6PIV1

Hi:

Yes, I did receive the original PM. I appreciate your sending it to me. I am sorry I did not respond directly right away. The reason I did not respond right away was because the original PM did not have any pictures or asking price. I remember reading the description of the car and was concerned about the car needing to be repainted and the engine size. Living in Miami, I am also going to need AC, and I was concerned that a 1600 cc motor may be too small to run AC off of. I am going to continue my search. But thank-you again.

Racer, honestly at the price you are asking, I'ld leave the ac for the next owner - who might not even need an Ac. , or might want to upgrade to a more efficient system. I have a IM with ac and 1835 engine. I never use it , because I don't want to rob the engine of hp.  I really don't think an AC will be the turning point on selling the car. IMHO ; others might pipe in with counterpoints.

You know, this is a really nice car. This is coming from someone who was seriously contemplating a coupe build. I've decided I don't NEED to build another car. But if I did.........

I looked hard at Doc Kleber's Kitman he just sold at 10K(I think). So take that 10k, and I'll bet you'd spend more than 18k, and you'd still have to build it.

This is a running, sorted car, ready to go. Maybe do some mods, but a great deal nonetheless.

I think Brian is asking a very fair price for a nicely sorted Coupe. IMHO, one could purchase this sorted car at a decent price. JPS puts n a decent paint job so could probably buff-out/detail the exterior paint, remove the modified upgraded 1600cc (and sell on Samba) upgrade to a 1915 or 2110cc which can easily handle a modern rotary AC compressor and still be ahead of the game.   @RacerX @Joel Roth

Just like El Guapo mentioned, my plan was going to include selling the 1600 -($2500?) and purchase a 2110 when the budget allowed. Get this, I just had the car tuned and the shop told me my carbs were only opening 75%. Wow, it is like a new car again! The car will have to be repainted if anyone wants that showroom new finish. In the end, If the Coupe doesn’t sell, I will be in debt, but I will not be sad 🙂

Last year when I did my pedal/fan shroud update, I discovered the same thing. Even worse, when I had mine tuned up two years ago, they DIDN'T discover it.

OTOH, that pales in significance to discovering after driving it home from Chicagoland to NYC that the PO or the tire shop that installed the new tires prior to my purchase put the 4.5" on the driver's side and the 5.5" on the passenger side.

Yeah, tha vague steering and the wandering went away.

Brian, I just watched your video, nice job. I saw what you were talking about with what's going on with the paint. If it were me, I would maintain the 'patina' and just prepare the car to be shot with a clear coat. I think it would add to the 'Outlaw' attitude of your coupe. GLWTS.  @RacerX @Mike373
