Looking for a "deal" on 4 lug Spyder specific wheels, with long axle (if that is applicable, which I think it is). As I understand it, and correct me if I am wrong.... I am fairly certain the offset is different for Speedsters vs Spyders and the same for Spyders with short axles.

Structurally, I don't want damage. Cosmetically, I don't care.

I am not in a rush. I foresee a need for a spare set in the future and may want something I can powder coat, paint or chrome plate.

Let me know if the offset really is different. If it isn't I have a set of four lug rims you can have for a very reasonable amount of money. Probably $100 for all four and they are in very good condition. I'm in California but I can leave them at Carey's shop in Indiana when I pick up Anand's Spyder. Shipping from there should be a lot more reasonable.

Fixed it for you......

I "might" know someone who can switch your car to short axle/wide5.

You could make up some cardboard wheels to represent width and off set.  Many Speedster use the long IRS rear and could benefit from different offsets of steel wheels BUT there seems to be none available (especially in chrome).  Different offset alloys are more readily available. You get to choose 4.5x15" or 5.5x15" and that's about it.  4 and  5/16" (or 4 and 1/4") seems to be the standard backspacing.  Easy to push them out with longer lug bolts and wheel spaced -  moving them back away from fender lips NOT so easy.

Sorry, not trying to be rude here, I am just confused. I am just looking for a cheap spare set of 4lugs for a Spyder, if someone has them.

If someone could confirm that, the Spyder with long axles has a different offset than Speedsters and Spyders with short, that would be helpful.

As I am changing the axles and likely ending up with 5 lug later, I am just wanting a cheap spare set, if someone has them.

I believe the rear wheels Carey uses are just like the 4.5" fronts, but the extra inch on the 5.5" rear wheel is on the INSIDE. Long axles require the wheel centers to be pushed outward, as in maximum "backspace" or offset.

If you're just trying to put something under the car for the winter, buy 4 front wheels and put super cheap 135 or 165R15 on the wheels.

For that matter, just go to a place that works on A/C VWs and buy a used set for $20/ea.
