I am looking for a Dellorto carb to study and want to find one that is not working and unusable in an engine. It can be broken, dirty, etc---I just want it to disassemble and learn from. One of the 3 larger models--not a "baby Dell".

If someone can help me out with this please email me at hsbroker at aol dot com.

Much appreciated!

Yes--the Samba may be the best route ---I automatically just go to
this site. I'm sure that some shops (Larry Jowdy?) may have one I can have to experiment with and learn from. I got Tomlinson's Dells book from C B Performance.

I have the chance to obtain a pair of Dells that were blueprinted and improved by Art Thaen and would like to see if they are as great and trouble free as I read.

I am more than fine with the Empi's on my Type IV, but if I can get this primo set of Dells I want to seriously consider making the switch. If I get 'em, it will be before this year's Tail Of The Dragon---Asheville iteration.
Double ditto....

Yes, they are. How often on here have you read about someone tearing down their Dells?? Eleven years, now, and I've never opened mine up. The only trouble we've ever had has been "chirping" on acceleration which is easily fixed with different manifold gaskets (or blocking a port as Bill Drayer did). Other than that, they just go, and go, and go...... (OK, so I had trouble with one of mine practically falling off of the manifold and running weird, but that was MY fault, not anything to do with the carb itself!!)

Oh! And they're pretty easy to work on, too. Webers are easy, too. They just need workin' on more often..... Another plus is that if you ever do get a clogged jet, they're all right up on top of the carb where you can see and get at them. Isn't that better???

My only caution would be not to get a pair that's too big for your engine. Jake could help spec that for ya, as it's important to match the flow rates of the carbs to the flow rate of your induction system and heads to make them all perform right together. Again, Jake is fastidious about this, and "a man after me own heart!"

That's what I have learned about the Dells too. Jake offered to switch out the carbs on the way to the Smokies for the new Tail Of The Dragon this year and I'm gonna take him up on that. He wants to dyno the engine again anyway to get some post break-in numbers.

I still want an old Dell to play with----anyone?
