15th ANNUAL SPEEDSTERS MEET SPYDERS - MAY 17-20, 2018

Carlisle, PA

It is almost time!  What time?  CARLISLE TIME!

For anyone who has never attended this event - if you own or are thinking of owning a 356 Speedster, Coupe, Cabriolet or 550 Spyder replica - is THE event of the year!  Our MG replica friends are invited to join us again as well!

Dates: Thursday May 17 through Sunday May 20, 2018

Location of activities: Carlisle Import & Performance Nationals, Carlisle Fairgrounds and surrounding countryside.

New This Year:  This year, in addition to the traditional Friday morning cruise, we are also going to have an optional Saturday morning cruise.  This shorter cruise will leave from and return to the show-field to offer a choice for people who might not want to spend all day at the show-field.  More information on all the cruises will be forthcoming.

 FAQ:

How do I get my registration?

All Carlisle Import/Replica event-related info - INCLUDING REGISTRATION INFO - can be found here:  http://store.carlisleevents.co...chResults.asp?Cat=23

Scroll down to “2018 Carlisle Import & Performance Nationals – Non-judged Show-field” OR “Judged” if you choose, and fill out the form.  Please specify your club as “SPEEDSTER OWNERS."  We get credit for every registration linked to the club!  Add the registration to your cart and check out.  BOOM!  You are registered!

Where should I stay?

The host hotel for the meet is the Courtyard by Marriott Harrisburg West/Mechanicsburg.

The Speedster Owners Group contracts a block of rooms for Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights.  The hotel offers us use of their first floor Hospitality Suite, free cookies on arrival and use of their parking lot as a combination detailing station/carburetor repair post.  We will put up a notification when these rooms are available to book.  NOTE:  These rooms go quickly, so don’t lollygag.

What’s for dinner?

Thursday’s traditional “Blackie is Hungry”, evening cruise and dinner at the Caddy Shack Restaurant will continue this year.   Everyone orders off the menu and pays their own check.  They have an excellent burger and beer selection!  The website is located here if you would like to have a pre-dinner look:  http://www.caddyshackrestaurant.com/

Friday evening, after the countryside cruise and introduction to the show-field, gather up a group of your new friends and/or old ones and head out to the “Restaurant Rally”.   A list of local restaurants will be provided; feel free to ask previous attendees for recommendations!   After dinner, head back to the hotel for plenty of hospitality in the Hospitality Suite!

Saturday Evening’s Gala Awards Dinner will be held at a new venue this year - the Roundtop Mountain Resort’s Fireside Pub and Grill.  Roundtop is a beautiful 18-minute drive from the hotel and has plenty of parking.   The cost this year is $50.00 per person (includes service charge and state sales tax).  There will, of course, be a cash bar.

Stay tuned right here and/or on the Facebook page, for further event information – including cruise destinations, show-field events and most importantly the RSVP FORM!!  If you have any questions at all, please email us at J.DrakeCarlisle2018@gmail.com

RSVP Form will the posted here on 1/1/2018!

A Tale of Two Cruises

Friday’s cruise will feature three of Central Pennsylvania’s famous covered bridges, which were featured in one of the most memorable cruises we’ve ever done as part of this gathering. The bridges themselves are amazing, but the roads which connect them are spectacular – sweeping curves, changes in elevation and scenery like nowhere else in the country.

Stops are planned at several points where we’ve scouted adequate restrooms, but we’ll primarily be driving those magnificent roads. Each stop is no more than an hour apart. Two food-and-beverage stops are planned on the back half of the Friday cruise, after which we return to Carlisle by the same amazing public roads.

We’ll make our Friday lunch stop at The Historic Meiserville Inn Pub and Restaurant. It’s a completely renovated public house which dates to the Presidency of Ulysses S. Grant, featuring a menu with combinations to suit for everyone’s tastes, a paved parking lot out back, a second-story deck, seating for more than 100 people and a friendly staff who’ll accommodate everyone to the best of their ability. There’s even a curvy old ‘40s-era Caddy out front as landmark.

After we’ve eaten the Meiserville Pub out of business, we’ll head to the nearby, superbly scenic Winery at Hunter’s Valley.  It sits on a rounded ridgeline and overlooks the Susquehanna River, with better-than-adequate parking (they’re roping us off a section!) and spectacular local knowledge of their wares.  One-ounce flights of their wines are five dollars, and two-ounce are ten, but come with a complimentary glass as a souvenir. We visited the winery, just to make sure it was up to snuff, and it most certainly was. Bring a camera.

We’ll return to Carlisle from the winery, with an hour’s drive between us and it. We should return to the Show Field by three in the afternoon, assuming we keep to the set schedule. For those wishing to skip the estimated hour and-a-half the winery stop involves, the route back through Harrisburg is very straightforward.

Saturday’s cruise is a new optional event for those that wish to see more of the Pennsylvania countryside.   Last year’s visit to the Old Sled Works in Duncannon, PA was so popular we are going to do it again!  This extremely “car friendly” place is filled with antiques of every variety, and has its own mock soda-fountain and a pinball machine room.   There is so much to see here, and you just might find something you had no idea you needed!

For anyone not looking to spend the morning on the show-field, this tour starts at the show-field at 10:00 and returns to the show-field around 12:30, for lunch and an afternoon of car fun.

Guys, there’s been a 100-percent pre-plan effort on all of this; I can tell you that Jeni has been madly accurate with timetables, menus, venues, dining and parking spaces available — as well as driven the cruise circuits.

If something needed to be re-worked, we saddled up and checked it personally. She’s absolutely worked her tail off, supported by the Stumpps, Drayers, Merklins, Piperatos and Maddie Mullis.

If I could make a personal request, since I think I’ve been here one time in the last year, if you’re replying on a Carlisle matter and you’re using something other than your given name as a handle here, please add your (at least first?) name to the post? It’ll really help me figure out who’s who.

For my part, I’ll be checking in at least one time a day between now and the end of the Carlisle event.

Cheers!

Cory

We're in for the whole shootin' match!  Glad to see you brought the covered bridge tour back. That was our favorite ride of all of them.  And another chance to see that sled factory would be excellent as well.  We got there last year just as everyone was thinking of leaving. Thank you for all the work it takes to float one of these boats.

“Stops are planned at several points where we’ve scouted adequate restrooms, but we’ll primarily be driving those magnificent roads. Each stop is no more than an hour apart. ”

If you need to stop more than once per hour we made special arrangement with a medical supplier to provide texas style catheters for the men and specialized body fluid collection devices for the women... Just email Corey

East Coast Bruce posted:

"All registered at the showfield, hotel, and RSVP sent in.   Looking forward to attending and not coordinating for the first time in a long time...but always available to help out  as needed.  Going to have to bail Saturday morning this year so we can attend a wedding in St Michael's, Maryland."

Hmmmmm. Well, Bruce, it looks like we've got a shortage of volunteers for 2019. How'd that be?   ;-)
