Has anybody given any thought about trying for it THIS year? All I'm seeing recently in this Forum is "Carlisle...Carlisle...Carlisle" and I'm reminded of "Marsha...Marsha...Marsha." So, how about "SLO...SLO...SLO" in June, maybe?   All SOC knuckleheads should hopefully have been vaccinated by then....especially now with "over-'65ers" being able to jump to the front of the lines with us curmudgeons at 75+ (I got my first one yesterday ).  Jeez, that group's gotta be close to the majority of Clown Car owners, doesn't it?   I really don't think there'll  be any school graduation crowd or room availability problems like last year, so maybe this should be the time to at least start thinking about.

Great, Antonio! That makes....hmmm, let me see: That makes 2 of us showing any interest. The "other chap" you mentioned was/is Noel aka Majorkahuna living "up the hill" in South Lake "Tarhoe." I don't know if this dog will hunt so the only thing we can do is sit back and wait for any others' Posts. That is, sit back and see if this China Covid Crap gets any better during the coming few months. I got my 1st shot of the Moderna vaccine last week...proving "Old Guys" can go to the head of the line sometimes! You can always keep in touch via a Private Message, too.

That sounds good to me Paul.

Actually, I got my dad an appointment today and he gets his first dose on Monday followed by my mum.

I think I'm in the next tier, (I teach here at the university) but I am not holding my breath.

Either way I suspect I will be good to go by spring.

Looking forward to it!

Oh and yes, here's my email, agallardo@csumb.edu

Feel free to email me anytime.

Meanwhile, I'll get the Spyder out get a look at her, heheheh.

Talk to you soon,

Antonio

Maybe, Paul.  I don't have much hope of being vaccinated by June; I don't tick any of the boxes for getting to the head of the line, and the line is moving very slowly.  I'm also a little skeptical that my car will be done by then, too.  So I'm gonna sit here by the sidelines and try not to seethe too much while we watch the game play out.

Try wearing a "I Voted 4 Biden" button AND another one for Gov. Brown. That should get you to the front of the line. Oops, on second thought ....nevermind. I  just watched the news and saw Antifa's torching Portland again and using leftover Biden banners as kindling. So, you're right. Just make sure you sit maybe 3 rows deep on those sidelines. That way you can duck for cover!

When I was a kid we walked to school if you lived within a mile of it.  No one thought anything of walking to a friend's house without a military escort.  Most media was local, so if a kid fell down a well 2 states away we never heard about it.  Likewise with kidnappings, run aways, etc.  Then we got kids faces on milk cartons, CNN and the 24 hour news cycle, followed by the internet, etc.  Fast forward to when I would let my 2 girls walk the 1/2 mile to school by themselves in the late '90s.  I constantly had parents questioning my sanity.  Wasn't I afraid they would be abducted?  Well, no, I was not excessively afraid of that.  The odds of a child being abducted off the street in the US are about 1:700,000.  The odds of a child being hurt in a car accident are about 1:600.  So I let 'em go ahead and keep driving their kids to school and we kept doing our thing.  I'm not saying it wasn't happening, but its was blown out of all proportion by the way it was covered.  It was also warped by the coverage; most of abductions are family disputes, not random sex fiends.

The same thing is happening with the coverage of Portland.  If you had a map of Portland that was as large as my thanksgiving sized dining room table, you could cover the area of protests with a postage stamp. A few morons (a dozen, maybe?) with a collective IQ smaller than the amount of loose change in my pocket, and who will never be happy with anything, decide to do something stupid that will change nobody's mind. That's somehow a national news story.  That **** gives them more oxygen than they deserve and encourages more of the same.  I go about my business in and around Portland daily, and if the news wasn't blaring it I'd never know it even happened.

Wow, that escalated quickly.  Sorry, Paul, rant over!

The vaccination process here in Florida is cumbersome. Counties are getting supplies of vaccine as well as Publix pharmacies. Publix, for the uninitiated is a large, chain food store operation with pharmacies that operates in several states in the deep south.

Our county broadcasts via it's website when vaccine is available and gives a phone number to call to make an appointment. Tried it, the phone system literally crashed in the first 5 minutes and it took a couple of days to fix it.

Publix website lets you know when they have vaccine available. You have to get up to get online starting at 6:00am EST and get in the cue. We are on Central time so do the math on what time I got up to get in the cue. It is a statewide system. It crashed at 6:07 EST, servers couldn't handle it.

I visited a Publix pharmacy and asked if anybody ever fails to show up for their appointment  to get vaccinated. Yup! Several people a day aren't showing up.

I asked if they could call me if, at the end of the day, they had unclaimed vaccine. That evening I got a call and got the shot.

They preferred to give it in the left arm. Didn't even feel it but there was some stiffness and discomfort in my upper arm the following day as they predicted.

28 days until the second dose.

@Napa Paul  @Antonio Gallardo et al;

I don't think the issue is lack of interest in the next West  Coast Cruise. I think ALL of us West Coasters want it to happen.

Don't forget that we live in wacky dysfunctional California. This sad reality presents totally different challenges to planning a future crowd-gathering event compared to planning a future crowd-gathering event on the other side of the country in Pennsylvania.

I imagine that plans for our event will probably happen when (an if) we can anticipate any extended stability in the constantly changing shut-down, no shut-down, vaccine edicts coming from our infallible county & State leaders in California. Otherwise it would be just an excercise in futility.

I'm just saying...

We're both in "lockstep", my brother-in-arms , with our assessment of this state's ruling guber-natorial (he really is one!) office holder and far too many of his lackey county supervisors. Too often they act like feudal lords ruling over their individual fiefdoms with the sole purpose to curry favor in groveling before their reigning Guber in Sacramento.

My Posting of a week ago was merely to seek out any interest in reviving the Cruise in 2021....not to initiate any "planning."

Paul I am in if I ever get vaccinated. El Dorado County is a total cluster **** and I am at the top of list do because I have a transplant. As soon as they opened up the website they dropped the age to 65+ and the 2000 does were gone in an instant. Evidently they allocation were based on population and not demographics. 20k people in SLT and 6000 are over 65. All of my friends all around the State are getting vaccinated and we have no clue when we will get it.

Hope we can pull this off.

Good luck, my friend, with getting your vac's soon. I get my 2nd one on the 11th, after which I'll be going directly to my favorite Bistro (Don Giovanni's) for a little celebratory thirst quencher. Being an "old fart" over 75 finally got me something other than the usual geriatric aches, pains, and losses in sight, hearing, mobility, and the infamous et cetera. I, too, hope we can soon enjoy a few days off the China virus leash keeping us in lockdown.

CALTRANS Announcement today 04/09/2021: HWY-1 road repairs at Rat Creek landslide will be completed by the end of this month (April).

This, of course, means another great drive will be available from Monterey/Carmel to the 2021 SLO West Coast Cruise HQ (Quality Suites Downtown SLO) on June 11th. This "jaunt" will be along one of the most beautiful coastlines you can find...anywhere; and if the weather is good, you might actually be able to see it! The 135 miles can take 3-1/2 to  4-1/2 hrs. depending upon stops for traffic, food, gas, or potty.

Who's interested in joining me for a Clown Car Convoy, starting at the Chevron station, Hwy-1 & Rio Road, Carmel-By-The-Sea at 1200 hrs (Noon)?

Getting on the road by Noon, we "should" be able to pull into SLO Cruise HQ on time for the usually "early birds" SoCal contingent's Welcome Libations.

What say the NorCal Knuckleheads?

Thanks, Scott!  I will never be able to watch that video without a million nitpicks:

  • Why didn't I tuck in my shirt?
  • Why did I stutter in response to a direct question?
  • Why are the people who comment on YouTube videos so angry?

And so on...

I called the producer a few weeks after we filmed and offered to re-dub the sound, as there were many things I wanted to say but didn't.  He laughed and said that I wouldn't believe how many people call and say the same thing.  Best part is, it turned out that I actually had relayed most of the info to which I was referring.  In other words, I was effectively blacked out for a good chunk of that shoot!

As for the Cruise, The Murtaugh Clan is on the fence for this year.  We're keeping a close eye on the numbers, as well as the edicts flowing from the California government.  We'll make a decision when Robert requests final attendance details.

Hope we can do this!

We are working on getting some merch made up last min @Ryan in NorCal worked up a awesome design and I ran with it into some merch. Im am hopping to pull these off. There is a quick time line and small min I got to do to make happen. Let me know if you might be interested asap so I can pout you down and ideally make it happen. I have estimates on the items.
