356 oil filter for a Speedster?

I saw a couple of Porsche 356 oil filters for sale on Ebay - the vertical, metal canister type. Can these be adapted to a VW engine? In terms of 'originality', it would look fine, but just wondering about the practicalities of adapting/using an original filter of this type.

I plan on going for a 'vintage' look (without the vintage price tag of a real 356) ;-)
