WARNING :  This is the story on the  "SOMEBODY: DARN NICE ENTRY" http://www.ebay.com/itm/1989-P...GhZZtrpc&vxp=mtr

I had Eric at the Dealer take detailed photos on a lift of the chassis and there are , major issues...I don't think they were intentionally misrepresenting the car they just didn't know what they were looking at. . To the rear of the bottom frame head section someone welded over the large rusted are and is a poorly done weld job. The 2nd chassis issue is the bottom of both rear frame horns are rusting through and someone welded a metal angle across the L to R frame horn in hopes that it will stay together IMHO It won't . This speedster needs a complete chassis replacement  . I have informed them of these major safety issues.  Also, the hood and deck lid were previously painted and do not match the car, the doors stick out at the rear bottoms too.  Conclusion, I would suggest anyone considering this speedster look elsewhere ....~Alan

WOW....I am almost EMBARRASSED that I even made NOTE of this ad but GRATEFUL to ALAN for his EXPERTISE in saving someone from making a terrible mistake and/or having their car split in half while cruising down the road! Much appreciate YOUR EXPERTISE and reinforces the old adage "be careful what you wish for" when searching for a bargain! KUDOS ALAN....thanks

The resale red made it look desirable ( I had offered and they agreed on $13k)  I almost pulled the trigger but I decided to sleep on it and take another look at the photos this morning.  The seller is now aware of the issues,  wonder if they'll pull the eBay ad or still try to unload it as it is.

I think we all know the answer to that question. Dealer will sell it "as is" no guarantees implied or warranty.

KNOWING what YOU now KNOW....they may be willing to UNLOAD it for $4500? It might be an opportunity of some sort considering your skill set and KNOW-HOW to make/fix AND render a quality automobile(?)....Dont know what a new chassis will cost or REPAIR or(?)

There is a complete rolling IRS disc brake chassis on the Samba for just $800 in Maryland....for me, this is a project that exceeds my desire to get into , been there and done that.....  My ambition for the Spring may be get into selling higher end golf carts as there  is a good number of camp grounds here in WV.

Years ago I bought rear VW chassis chunk for SOCer in UK.  His Speedster had arrived with no title just a bill of sale so he couldn't get it registered there.  I found chunk on SAMBA with title and even the body VIN tags for like $150.  It had rusted out horns.  They were filled with sand and what looked like chocolate milk (car was from VA beach).  I cut the VIN hunk of tunnel out and shipped it to UK - he was successful in getting it on the road.
