I'm sure many have seen this from a dealer on ebay but I like to post these so the pictures might live on here for future reference.

This example needs a Vintage radio and some square weave carpet but other than that and the asking price ($67,000) is really close to perfect. I like Super Wide Bodies and I like Beck's and think their service really is 2nd to none. But no one does interiors like Henry and their tops seems to fit like no other. This one has the Audi 1.8L turbo in it....

Anyway, I just like this one. The interior is pretty much bang on but I'd like to change out the plasticy vent covers; not much to complain about

Something wrong here. That is Dale's car.  Originally it was suppose to be Jane's (Pom) car but circumstances led to Dale selling his black speedster and buying this one. Two notable giveaways - the steering wheel; Dale sweated over that and settled on the black Nardi. The second thing; the wheels. They were hand painted by me and Dale. The color is Benjamin Moore's "Dragons Breath".  Either someone went to great lengths to replicate Dale's Mausse D (that is the correct color of the interior) or someone is misrepresenting this car as new.

This is the response received to my inquiry

..........Yes, I have met the original owner and also the client that I got the car from. That being said, who is confused about this being new? I am certainly not confused about it and it is also listed as used. I appreciate the email but not sure its relevance.

Thank you,

I love it when sales-folk took out of BOTH sides of the same ASS-CRACK....listed as ZERO miles(?). Of course he comments on the relevance of your inquiry as if he has nothing to hide......it makes him look like quite the douche bag to those who know better and to the public he serves.

It is Dale Bates' car for sure... you can see the original build picts on IM site.

Well I think it the price is a bit high....

It is nice, but it should be less desirable in my books.

First it's the Audi high rise engine and a 4 speed tranny with the CV joint challenge at least in the boots.  It's a great engine but not in that car IMO.

BTW the AC is Vintage but it is IM's beginning foray into the WC , so it is original IM so to speak but now the buttons are made older looking without the plate for the unit and looks more period correct.  Every new build gets better as it should.

It will make a good car for someone when they get it priced right

ebay ad says "used" not new, maybe they changed it..

It did say new before, in fact it said "brand new" and the mileage still says "0"

It's clear that's Dale's car but some errors in the ebay ad still exist and the reply from them should have simply thanked Alan for his email heads up and changed the ad. I wouldn't be surprised if they change the mileage today (as they should)

They also seem to represent themselves as actually being Vintage Speedsters. It's a bit misleading:

  • While some manufacturers will lead the customer to believe the use of a VW pan is inferior, it's hard to argue with some facts.
    1) Volkswagen produced over 21,000,000 cars using the pan design.
    2) Vintage Speedsters hand built over 3000 speedsters as of 2013.
    3) We build more than 90% of the speedsters being sold today.
How many Vintage Speedsters have been built?
  • Vintage Speedsters was established in 1987 and as of now we hand built well over 3000 Speedsters.
