Quarter tonneau from Vintage Speedsters - Arizona!

Months ago we ordered a tan quarter tonneau from Vintage Speedsters - Arizona. It was offered to us for USD 250 + shipping to Switzerland for USD 99! We wired USD 349 and after a while we received a tan quarter tonneau wich was very, very cheap produced! The seewings were very cheap manufactued - see attached pictures!

we contacted Vintages Speedsters Arizona about this case and they couldnt understand our reaction, actually original text:

"The stitching in the picture below is of the underside, which is never seen. Not sure why that is an issue. Never the less, I can refund once item is sent back (there is a %15 restocking fee)."

We returned the quarter tonneau on AUGUST 22 - 2018 by swiss post and Vintage Speedsters Arizona confirmed the entry of tonneau on SEPTEMBER 25 - 2018 ( over 1 month!!!). Vintage Speedsters Arizona confirmed on September 25th to return the money and until today OCTOBER 8th - NO MONEY ARRIVED!

By the way: We ordered another quarter tonneau from Vintage Motorcars - California (Greg and co) and we paid USD 135 and shipping was USD 45 - and finally we received a nice, good-seewed quarter tonneau wich we were able to overgive to our customer - see 2 pics attached!

We worked for a long, long time with Vintage Speedsters of California and kirk always understood what we needed as dealers/cutomers.... we think Vintage Speedsters of Arizona didnt understand the spirit of the 356 Speedsters!

And regarding the business: to refund the money is much, much overdue!

Pete

@calif  Hello! First off, we have no control as to how long shipping takes on your return. We have been in constant contact with you and have promised a full refund upon return of the item. As per our conversation this morning, we are issuing a full refund. I apologize again for your trouble but we absolutely did our best to satisfy you. That is why we agreed to issue the refund in full AND waive the restocking fee(which we normally do not do because the quarter covers are made to order). Again, we apologize about your troubles but we have stayed in constant contact and have done our absolute best to satisfy you. If there is anything else we can do please let us know.

Thank you,

The Vintage Team

@Alan Merklin

Good afternoon Alan,

Hope you are having a good Monday! I know we have not gotten a chance to provide you with any services since we purchased the company. We aim to provide the highest quality parts and service. It would be a lie if I were to tell you that we are perfect and don't make mistake, after all we are human, but I can promise you that we take great care of our customers and in the event of a mistake, we step up and own it and do everything we can to make it right in the eyes of our customers. If there is ever anything we can do for you, I would love the opportunity to earn your business and show you what great customer service we have. Hope you have a wonderful rest of the week and talk soon

Thank you!

Aron

I must say that Aron  swarmed all over the door latch problem I had a few weeks ago with perfect advice and parts.  It was easy to repair and works perfectly.  He definitely went above and beyond for me and I was more than pleased.  I don't know about the sewing problem and wonder if the same supplier who did Kirk's work handled this particular piece.

Pete

I just checked the stitching (using digital calipers) on my 2017 Bentley Motors Continental GT.

I found one stitch .003" off, guess I'll see if I can get my $300,000.00 back.

Just joking, it was only .002" off.

I'm sure people see what they want to see, sorry I just don't get it.

Good morning,

well, since october 25th you promised to refund the complete amount - until today NO refund! we gave you at least 5 times our CORRECT COMPLETE WIRE INSTRUCTIONS and yesterday you informed us its not going trough!

we worked more than 10 years with kirk from vintage speedsters-calif...we bought over 100 cars from him and imported them...we were his dealers...but we NEVER had such case like this!

1. if you dont see your quarter tonneau quality (seewing) you will not understand manufacturing quality speedsters!

2. if you charge us almost 100% more than vintage motors-CA, + almost double for shipping, this will be not customer friendly!

3. if you wait for almost 2 weeks for refunding the money, after you confirmed you received it - you will not work customer friendly too!

you have our complete wire instructions, ...its working since all our customers using them and it works!

Well, if quality is important to you, you will see a diffrence!

All I know is that, over the past 30 some years, I have had several bimini tops and mooring covers made for my boats.   The stitching wasn't near as nice as either of the samples you showed, but they still served me well past the advertised life of the fabric.   I would think boat covers are subject to more harsh environments and heavier use.

I had a series of exchanges with "Pete" yesterday on this forum and it got pretty contentious so I just deleted my side of it.

He seems to think that he is the arbiter of what good quality is, note the tone of his response to Jethro. He is the customer and he has the right to complain to the vendor if he doesn't believe he is getting what he paid for.

He might be better served by showing the tops and bottoms of both tonneaus rather than the top of one and the bottom of another. Sort of apples and oranges comparison. When that happens you have to wonder why not show the same part of both as a reasonable comparison.

I understand his frustration about his refund as well. But calling out Vintage on the forum is pretty vindictive, as this appears to be the first problem he has had. It isn't like this is an SAS type of problem.

I told him I really didn't care about this whole thing. I don't, I'm concerned about a Cat 3 hurricane that just shifted towards my location. But, I don't like being used as a foil in his battle with Vintage. We can't help him, his attitude makes me not want to even if I could. It appears that he just wants to vent, impune Vintages reputation, get his money and then retreat back to Switzerland.

I expect another blistering post once he reads this.

I, too, have had issues with VS now that they are in Arizona.  Very long story, but I bought a few things late last year right after the move and I was VERY pleased.  I made another order in the Spring of this year and not only did it take MUCH MUCH longer to arrive than promised, but it was incomplete and partially wrong.  In the end I received an envelope with a few gaskets that appear to be from Sierra Madre.  I only think this because I was told the gaskets had to be ordered as VS said they didn’t have any in stock.  I ordered a set from Sierra Madre and got them in a few days.  I later received the ones from VS.  I’m pretty sure they are the same ones; but WITHOUT a VS markup.

I had the pleasure of meeting Kirk and Mary in SLO.  I also met Greg, who took over their operation.  Without a doubt, I will buying from him from now on.

I havent said anything on this site until now, but it seems I’m not the only one who is displeased.

I learned my lesson.

@calif Good afternoon. Again, I apologize that you are unhappy but I have stayed in contact with you and I have also done everything I can to make it correct in your eyes. As far as shipping goes, when you sent it back it took over a month because you paid less than $20 for shipping. When we spoke I included a shipping quote that you approved(as well as the cost of the tonneau that was approved by you). Shipping was more than $20 and that is why it arrived to you in a timely manner and not over a month. We very much care about our customers and our quality of workmanship which is why we refunded you in full AND waived the restocking fee. We appreciate you working with us to get this resolved and understand that you will not be doing business with us anymore. I have done everything I can to make this right for you. But at this point there is nothing more that I can do  and am not sure what more you are trying to accomplish by continually attacking us on here. The refund has been issued.

Sorry again for your frustrations,

Aron

@calif As far as the refund goes, As soon as we received the refund(over one month) we attempted to refund the money and for whatever reason it did not go through. As soon as I got the notice that it did not process, I reached out to you, apologized and asked if you had paypal so that I could get the money to you right then and there. I have no control over how the bank processes their wires and I even proposed a solution to have it handled immediately.

Sorry, as a former dealer for switzerland (with over 100 cars we bought from kirk), i have a high level quality standart. kirks first cars were not very, very good..and we told him..and kirk got better...thats the way manufacturer should think!

no, again..as former dealer for kirks cars in switzerland (more than 100 cars) i do have a limit of quality standart - kirks 1th cars were not very good and several dealers around the world told him to get better on details!

the first speedster i bought in 1996..the car was bad....the last i bought was a huge diffrence!

if you dont understand my point in the quarter tonneau, you dont understand the point of quality!

anyway...greg from vintage motorcars fixed it! may, because he works since over 20 years in this field and he understands.

so long, good night!

And by the way: the reason why quality is important is... if you can fix bad things in the beginning, in the production, in the manufacturing..then you dont need to fix it at the end. thats the way how we worked with kirk and thats what i can expect as a dealer or customer! kirk didnt built better cars because of himself, he built better cars because he got feedback. feedback is important to get a better quality standart.

even a small piece like the quarter tonneau tells you how the rest of the car will be... if details doesnt get good!

thank you
