To my fellow maddening SOC'rs...

Does any have a recommendation on which vendor to purchase an A-1 exhaust for our speedsters from?

It is time in my build to start on the engine and I need an exhaust. I'll be going with a 1-5/8 size for reference with no heater exchange...

Thanks!

Best to take your car to Tiger's shop in Santa Ana. That way you can get a more custom fit as they install & weld the exhaust together on your engine.

I would love to do that, but might be tough logistically for me

If they are right around the corner, how tough can it be?

They are, but the car isn't drivable yet. That means renting a flatbed and possibly leaving it overnight, which I do not want to do.

I might be able to get the engine to him...

I'll give him a call and see what he says/recommends

Seriously! Thank you, Jim!

And now that I know we live so close to each other... man I wish I knew that when I started down this madness...

I put a call into Tiger, but he was not available to chat...

Anybody (local to Irvine) have a basic exhaust I can borrow to get my 1915cc up and running?

My thought process is to get the 1915cc running.. new clutch, oil sump, plugs, valve job, etc... with the engine on the stand... and this get it installed... borrow Jim's towing.. and spend a day or half day as Tiger makes/install the exhaust...

I must admit, I would never buy another exhaust from Tiger. I paid over 1k for my Sebring exhaust...this is my second order. The quality was terrible on the last one and he was most unhelpful to fix the fault on the quality. He promised 3 months and I received my exhaust 6 months later. The exhaust tip was uneven and the edge of the tip all rough and 'jagged'. He offerred the measly amount of $50 to assist with fixing the fault yet I never received it. It was my fault I didn't open the box to check it early enough. Unfortunately, I was travelling around the west coast...doing the 'tourist' thing and only checked the exhaust when it was finally installed. Oh well, lesson learnt. I will post pics soon. I therefore need to have it removed again once it arrives in Oz, clean up/replace the tip, have it recoated and reinstalled. Imagine the cost of the rectification works....that's customer service for you. Oh he did offer a refund but it was impossible given the time frame I was in whilst in the US not to mention I still like the exhaust despite its 'questionable' quality.

As I've said, I'm a repeat customer. This was my second Sebring purchase and probably the 5th A1 exhaust I've had in my lifetime in the VW hobby. I was always happy to pay more for A1 products given their exceptional quality. I think growth in production has decreased the time for scrutiny of products leaving their factory...

Looks worse in real life....the edge of the exhaust tip is all rough and uneven. Tiger basically said send it back and get a refund or stiff **** rather than assist me with an amicable coclusion. Nice customer service. Never again...Vintage Speed in Taiwan now makes it. Even Greg has a beautiful one that sounds and fits better. My car had to be cut in order to make it fit as it sits too high by a couple of inches.
