Can anyone give me step-by-step instructions to adjusting the steering box on a 1969 beetle pan. I noticed that my 84 IM does not have the small hatch in the front trunk to gain axcess to the box. Also, is there a minimum amount of steering play (how much is just right)? It's been a few years since I adjusted the steering box on a beetle...something like 20 years.
Also, whats the best manual for a 1969 beetle pan. Would this be it? 66-69 BEETLE & KARMANN GHIA BENTLEY SERVICE MANUAL

Ron: On my 84 IM there is a small plug in the trunk that you pull out to adjust the box. It is not big enough to get a wrench through; you have to lock it from the bottom. I have a bit of play in mine when the steering wheel is turned to the far right or left. I spent some time trying to adjust it but nothing I did seemed to make a significant diffreance.
