GOOD NEWS - all aluminum 5.5"x15" 356 replica wide-five aluminum wheels are available and weigh 10 lbs. each. Hubs are CNC machined and then precision welded to rims under controlled circumstances to control correct offset, trueness, and concentricity. They do not come with hub cap spring clips but you can install these yourself if desired.

Note that Mahle cast magnesium "gas burners" for Porsche 911 and 914-6 weigh 9.9 lbs. each. As for strength, a set of the aluminum replicas are currently being used on a 130 mph plus capable race car that weighs about 2,000 lbs. with no problems.

BAD NEWS - the wheels are $550 each plus $12.50 UPS shipping in the USA. I'm ordering a set of five for my new IM Speedster replica as the expense will force me to go on a diet I have been avoiding. :o)

Also, I don't think (?) they are clear anodized (for corrosion protection) so if this is desired you would have to have it done yourself.

Why skimp? Go whole hog. Ever wander around the pits at the Monterey Historics & get a good look at what some of the 356's & spyders are wearing. Looks a lot like billet. Technomagnesio. These were 450$ a corner when I last checked about 1992. Wound up having the Mangels cut, pushed, blasted & powdercoated. I was still ahead$$$.
Alex Bivens' 15" aluminum 356A/B replica wheels are now $550 each plus $12.50 shipping in the USA. They're polished aluminum (not clear anodized) and do not come with hub cap spring clips. You have a choice of 5.5" or 6.0" rim widths. Centers are CNC machined from billets which are then auto-tig welded to rims.

Ralph, something I saw at a concours years ago - an IMMACULATE Ferrari 250GT SWB coupe was rolled into its display spot on the grass. Then the perfect Borranis/tires were removed and the extra-perfect Borranis/tires were installed (we wouldn't want grass stains or dew on the tread, would we...).
In September of 1965 when I left IBM in NYC to transfer to Dallas I drove my belongings-laden '61 Lancia Appia Zagato coupe. Through the Holland Tunnel into New Jersey and stopped at the first filling station to gas up. Sitting at the pumps ahead of me was an Alfa GTZ "tubolare" with New Jersey license plates! An elderly gentleman was the owner; he had bought it from someone after it had crashed at a race in Europe, then sent it back to Alfa for sorting out and rebuild. The car was then shipped to him in the USA where he used it for a "Sunday driver". Va va voom...
